About this project

In 2011 Uplift, Organization will be 20 years old. The mission of Uplift is to feed the homeless where they live and provide basic items like blankets, hygiene products, candles, shoes, shirts, pants, and what ever else they can get ahold of.

They have been doing this quietly in the community for almost 20 but next year they want to have a Gale celebrating their volunteers, raise community awareness and fund raise.

My wife Patti (www.pattidickinson.com) who is a published author and myself (www.wooddickinson.com) will meet the homeless on their turf and interview them and photograph them. We have spent months going out on Uplift trucks as volunteers getting to know these folks and build trust. Now we have selected a target group we want to profile. Currently we are interviewing and photographing and the video will give you a sneak preview.

We need funds to create the book (both hard and soft cover) and it will be a limited edition. Funds are needed to make the exhibition quality prints for the show (about 17). These prints will be runs of only 12 each numbered and signed. Funds are also needed to create a hand made folio of the show prints in 8.5.x11 size and create an interactive PDF version of the book with extra content on the web.

Once the event has passed we will expand the book and submit it for publication. That's the end goal because the homeless voice isn't heard in our society and this book will allow them to speak to us all. The stories are amazingly emotional.
