We also wish you lived in LA. But we will definitely buy a couple of Deniz's books for the store, and fast track her for any future residency program (great idea!). Thanks again, Geoff.

I wish we lived in LA so my daughter could hang out with you. She's 11, writes and illustrates her own books (see http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1074845), and would love to learn how to create editions by hand. It strikes me that focusing on creating artist books might make sense for you. Inviting book designers to be artists-in-residence is one possibility to enlarge your community.

Hi Tina. Thanks so much for your support So glad to have more engaged locals on our side. Our focus is art editions, literature and children's books, but we will also carry a wide variety of gently used books. Next Thursday we're hosting an open house in our future space at Kristi Engle's gallery. Hope you can stop by to say hello.....

Writer Sarah Balcomb and designer Robey Clark are the partners behind Pop-Hop Books & Curio, a creative retail environment merging a bookstore and print studio, opening Spring 2012 in the Highland Park neighborhood of northeast Los Angeles.

Sarah Balcomb was born in New York, grew up elsewhere, and received her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. Her short fiction has appeared in dozens of literary magazines, she has worked at major art museums and small literary nonprofits, and has taught creative writing in public high schools and at the university level. Her first job, at the age of 15, was at an independent bookstore. She is excited to further develop her love of the printed word within her community of Highland Park.

Robey Clark grew up in Richmond, VA, and studied graphic design at RISD. He has been publishing music and printed matter under the moniker Pop-Hop since 2007. He managed the design lab at the Bronx Museum of Art and has taught screen printing at art institutions on both coasts. He likes reading books almost as much as he likes making them.
