About this project

Atmosphere by Hatmosphere

Is the first line of clothing being created by Drew Bird to accompany her already successful hat and accessory business.  Inspired by the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures, she is creating a futuristic look at what their civilization might have worn had they still existed. A couture look with a blend of space traveler meets technology. Made with durable fabrics, leather, and lighting effects, the clothing will have the look of multi dimensional beauty, and a sense of a living organism. The designs have layers and removiable pieces to afford versatility for climate changes, or spontaneous occasions.

The pieces in the collection are designed around the idea; that a really well made garment never stops being used, doesn't become outdated, and is always a source of pleasure to the wearer.

Drew Bird is a true creator who comes from a background of artists and scientists. She is a self taught engineer of the aesthetic, not only visually but energetically as well. "To create garments or hats for others to wear, must come with  an area of responsibility."

"I do not believe in manufacturing something that carries bad karma. It is irresponsible to allow the public to wear something that has no respect to our collective energy field. All my creations have been made with love and it makes a difference. Many of my clients have told me that everytime they wear my designs they have the time of their life."

Her view of the future in fashion is to have the ultimate space suit that is a blend between sexiness and function. "A wardrobe for the time traveler as i believe the Mayans were."

A BIRD OF A DIFFERENT FEATHER

Exotic, elegant, and inspiring are the words that first come to mind upon meeting Drew Bird. At first her direct gaze and baldhead are disconcerting, but her lighthearted whimsical smile soon puts one at ease. Her creative world is an intoxicating journey that is at times, uncanny and futuristic, beautifully ancient, and at other times tribal and stimulating. When asked where she gets her ideas she just smiles and replies, ”I don’t think these ideas up, I dream them. In my sleep I learned to design, it’s a gift I take seriously.”

Dallas Texas was the home of her first fashion shows and videos. The name of her company, HATMOSPHERE, manifested from the thought that each hat carries it’s own atmosphere, sensual, and powerful.

Accepting an invitation to move to NYC was the next necessary step toward her career. The established milliner Frank Olive met Drew at a Neiman Marcus trunk show, he recognized her ability and invited her to come work with him. Unfortunately his illness prevented that dream from it’s fruition.

Left to her own devices she landed a job in Parsons Mears, a Broadway costume shop. There under the scrutinizing eye of Jim Mears she constructed hats for such extravagant musical productions such as Cat’s, Starlight express, Phantom of the Opera just to mention a few.

Soon the call to Hollywood pulled her to the west coast where she has designed for a number of films, commercials and performers. Shape shifting between the World of the cinema and the world of fashion offers her the challenges she needs.

Her goal is to one day design for Las Vegas shows, and work with some of the modern day greats on the runways of the world. One thing you can always depend on is top quality, and freedom of expression and a unique intelligent view of style.

Her current projects in development are as follows:
A line of wedding hats and accessories that are for the bride who had a strong view of who she is.
A line of hats for cats.
A television show about the beauty of being yourself.
