What is Blue Dog Mead?

Blue Dog Mead is the first dedicated meadery in the state of Oregon, located in the heart of Eugene. Founded by three University of Oregon undergraduates in 2011, we need your help to release our new Winter Seasonal.

Our goal is to continue to transform mead into a modern beverage. We're young, motivated, and looking forward to sharing our mead with you.

Tell me about mead!

Mead is a fermented beverage created from honey, water and yeast. Widely known in human history as a drink from the medieval, vikings and Renaissance era, we're bringing it back as a modern alternative to beer and wine. 

Today, we boast two products that we are extremely proud of: 

• Our "Blue Collar Mead" is a traditional mead with a  sweet start and dry finish at 13% ABV
• Our "Green Collar Mead" is a cyser mead made with apple, vanilla and honey at 6.9% ABV 

We are always innovating and refining recipes to reflect feedback received from our community to produce the best modern mead on the market.

The Winter Seasonal: Honey, honey and honey!

Mead was the world's first brewed beverage and we're bringing it back. The Original Liquid Sin. 

Let our Winter Seasonal keep you warm with a triple dose of honey. Crafted with fermented, distilled and raw honey.

We make our winter seasonal by fermenting a wildflower blend of honey to dryness. Then we take part of the fermented mead and distill it to an 82% ABV spirit, called Honey Jack.  Finally, we blend our base mead, honey jack and raw honey with a little bit of lemon juice to make our Winter Seasonal.

At 20% ABV it's a mead with a kick. Heat it up and pair it with a cold evening by the fire or serve it at room temperature, it's versatile and it's delicious. We guarantee that when Winter comes, you'll be excited at the idea of drinking a warm honey beverage with friends.

Why should I fund Blue Dog Mead?

With your help, Kickstarter funds would give us an opportunity to bring our Winter Seasonal to market in time for the holidays. The funds allow us to acquire all the necessary ingredients, bottles, and packaging to successfully bring the product from our warehouse to your home to sip.

We've created a very unique process to producing mead that would allow us to jump on the project immediately after meeting our funding goal. In fact, we've already done the research and development on the product, we just need a little help in getting the materials!

The Team

Simon Blatz is the leader of the Dog Pack at Blue Dog Mead. He enjoys sampling the various creations daily during work.

Simon Spencer is the leader of our sales team, he ensures that mead is carried at your favorite retailers and bars. He enjoys the Blue Collar Mead on the rocks. 

Ray Walsh is the creative dog behind the scenes, he digs deep to create innovate product such as the Winter Seasonal. He enjoys back yard movies with his little pups Desmond, Oliva, Owen and his puppy love Jen. 

Huy Tran is the social media and marketing enthusiast for the team and is striving to educate the world about mead. He enjoys the "Tail Wagger" cocktail pictured below. 

Cheyenne Thayer is an advertising student at the University of Oregon where she also works as a student fundraiser. She is an illustrator for Ethos and designer for Allen Hall Advertising. She enjoys our mead straight up.
