Summary

Dirty Simple is an ongoing documentary film project about “dirty kid” culture, a unique traveling subculture in the United States.  Each short film produced is the result of a two-week filming period following their daily life on the road.

This Kickstarter campaign will fund the next year of production for Dirty Simple and ensure the completion of the first four short films as well as a Dirty Simple Recordings music compilation which will highlight their original music as well as the folk music being kept alive through dirty kid culture.

Theme

Dirty Simple is a documentation of traveling culture centered on the theme: life, simple and removed.  Dirty kids escape the complexities of an overwhelming world and utilize the excesses of privilege and wealth by riding trains, hitchhiking, busking, flying signs, dumpstering, squatting and generally making another man’s trash their treasure.  We find universality in their attempts to combat the chaos of modern life, but their path, it turns out, is no simpler than anyone else's, just dirtier.

Objective

The objective of Dirty Simple is to create tasteful documentation of dirty kid culture and daily life on the road.  Dirty Simple is an ongoing short film project with the goal of producing two short films per year, with the first four to be completed in the next year.  As each segment of the series is finished, it will be released for free public viewing on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.  In addition to the short films, a Dirty Simple Recordings music compilation of original and folk songs performed by dirty kids will be produced.

Projected Timeline

Fall 2012:
 - Completion of the first and second short films, which have already been shot (of Echo and the Geoff Family), to be fully produced and made available for free public viewing.

Fall/Winter 2012:
 - Shooting and production of third and fourth short films.

Spring/Summer 2013:
 - Editing and post production of third and fourth short films.

Fall 2013:
 - Completion of the third and fourth short films to be fully produced and made available for free public viewing.
 - Completion of the Dirty Simple Recordings music compilation.

Beyond…
 - Combine Dirty Simple short films into a feature length film!
