Update #9: 19 hours to go! How about a game of Tetris?

Posted on October 19, 2011

Tetris. We've all played it, rotating the pieces and dropping them in the perfect place, or despairing as we discover a piece won't fit. You may have even joked about 'mastering' the game during that stint of unemployment. But what about the people who've truly mastered Tetris? Where are the Kasparovs and Fischers, the great champions who've dedicated their minds to solving its deepest puzzles?'Ecstasy of Order' tracks down just such a group of record-holding Tetris Masters as they prepare to compete in the 2010 Classic Tetris World Championship. Get an up-close look at the Masters as they reveal their secrets, recount their decades-long obsession with the game, and enter the transcendental state required to reach the highest levels known as the 'Ecstasy of Order'.

Director Adam Corneilus and tournament officiator/Tetris-expert Robin Mihara first met after Robin saw Adam's Max-Out! preview online. The duo realized they shared a love and appreciation for classic Tetris and the feature film, Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters was born.

The film is screening at Cucalorus 17 on Saturday, November 12 @ 7:15 PM in Thalian Black with the short film Love & Theft.

In honor of this film and the 30 days and 30 nights we have been plugging away trying to reach our Kickstarter goal of $17,000 -- enjoy a game of tetris with your donation to Cucalorus.

The Cucalorus Film Festival was established in 1994 when a small group of filmmakers held an intimate one-night event in downtown Wilmington, NC and has since grown into one of the largest regional film festivals in the country. From its inception Cucalous did not give awards, preferring the more relaxed atmosphere of a non-competitive, artist-centered event. MovieMaker Magazine dubbed Cucalorus as one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals” in 2010 and the Brooks Institute named Cucalorus one of the “Top Ten Film Festivals in the United States” in 2009.
