Dear Friends: Moving contacts to our game forums!

Update #26 · Apr 17, 2012 · 15 comments

Hello Kickstarter friends....

We have been getting tons of messages and comments on the Kickstarter page for TAKEDOWN.  The problem with this is that we are trying to provide information on the development of TAKEDOWN to this awesome community, but it's hard with the split between the Kickstarter page and our official forums.

Would you consider stepping over to our official forums here:

www.serellan.com/forums/

If you are a Kickstarter contributor, you can get access to a special forum that only contributors can access, and even if your aren't, you can step up and make the game you want a reality.  Currently there are 5000+ Kickstarters and only 1000+ forum members.

It is a challenge for us to continue to feed information both to the Kickstarter page and to our official forums, so it would be much easier for us if you went to the official forums and joined the discussion.

As always, you can follow us on Twitter at @serellan.

Thanks,

Christian

[EDIT: We will be doing monthly updates on Kickstarter, for more regular updates, check the forums!] - @Serellan

      We plan on monthly KS updates, and at least weekly updates on the forums. Don't want to spam people with emails, we got a lot of feedback of sending out TOO MANY updates. Hard balance to walk.

      Though I like getting updates here to cut down on noise, I'm fine with either option. However, I would suggest that it would be beneficial to document the progress of the project by regularly updating via Kickstarter so that everyone has a history to follow to show that the project isn't dead and everyone is still alive and active compared to some other projects on Kickstarter in the past which become very suspicious to backers after a great period of silence.

      Have to say I agree that updates should be done on here...

      I'm on the forums but that's just chatter.

      I'd much prefer the updates be done through kickstarter. That's my interface to you guys. :-) I don't mind if the updates end up being much less frequent here. I just would really like not to have to register for Yet Another Forum somewhere.

      BTW, I am super excited about this game! I sure hope you can make this happen on the mac. It would make me sooo happy! :-) If not, then I'm happy to have just given you the ability to make a cool game. :-) Have fun!

      Leave lot of info on the forums and every 1-2 months post a summary on kickstarter or make a newsletter where people can get information from.

      I agree with Brett. Forums have to many threads to go through. It's way faster to get an email from Kickstarter saying there is a new update, than to spend 1/2hr-1hr going through a forum I'm not familiar with trying to find 1 update. I don't care if the forum has more info, just have the odd update o here from time to time.

      Does anyone know how to access the 'Kickstarter forum' on the Serellan website? I created an account, however, I can't access it.

      @Sean Having RSS on kickstarter though makes the updates from multiple projects much more manageable. I can open my RSS reader and see all updates. The alternative is me having to open a forum and then basically look for unread items.
      The forum issue is compounded even more when people like myself back a lot of projects that then move on to using forums.
      It means for each project with a forum I have to go to that forum, login and read.... rather than just opening my RSS of kickstarter feeds.

      @Christian Allen, Serellan LLC
      Kickstarter is very spammy with the updates. This is compounded for people who back a lot of projects because the average number of updates to a single project is 30-60. It get's exponential and impossible to keep up with. I'd recommend that you keep your day to day updates or devblog behind the forum paywall for backers, post major milestone updates on kickstarter but primarily focus the kickstarter updates on distribution of the finished product, when relevant. Drop the kickstarter after the finished product ships. Use the forum for everything else, but kickstarter is just the distribution platform at this stage, and the updates should be focused on that to, uh, keep it sane.

      I like the kickstarter updates more than the forums!

      Perhaps consider an opt-in mailing list for announcements. Or if your forum supports a way to subscribe to topics perhaps that would be enough. (Sorry, I'm not there so can't tell; I only pledged $1 because I thought you did well with that page and video update, but I'm not really interested in the game.)

      I much prefer kickstarter updates as well because of the RSS support. Far easier for me to look at kickstarter RSS feeds for updates than to manually browse to all the associated forums and look.

      @Ben Cribb

      I have been getting lots of negative feedback about posting kickstarter updates because some consider it "spam"

      Can you provide your thoughts on that? We are trying to figure the best way of updating the community and are trying to give people the information they want...

    15. Missing_small

      Creator Ben Cribb on April 17, 2012

      I'd prefer you posted the updates on kickstarter and linked in the forums rather than the opposite way around. Your forums aren't rss feed enabled, kickstarter is. I don't really manually navigate to things like this for news any more.
