About this project

WHAT I’M TRYING TO DO: $300 will fund the printing of 1000 pamphlets on one of my favorite topics: bathroom etiquette. The Be Nice. Guide to Farting and Pooping brochure is a full-color, two-sided work measuring 8.5 x 14 inches. Reaching my goal would pay for roughly 2/3 of the printing costs and all of the mailing costs for the rewards. By sending the pamphlets to you the Backer, I am achieving a secondary goal: widespread distribution through a meaningful connection. WHY I NEED YOU: Historically I have funded the printing of Be Nice. works on my own, but this has stifled the reach and scope of the project. I couldn’t distribute the pamphlets as widely as I would prefer due to the limitations of my finances and connections. This is something I would like to change. And this is why I need you! Even simply spreading the word about the project changes the efficacy of my art work. In short, without you my project wouldn’t be 100% successful.

WHAT THIS GIVES BACK TO YOU: By supporting this printing of the Be Nice. Guide to Farting and Pooping, you become part of the project. When you pass along a pamphlet, share a link, or forward a post or this project to your friends you are promoting the ideas of Be Nice.! And that feels good. So get ready for chuckling, amusing your friends, sharing funny bathroom related stories, and open up to some happy, super-awesome feelings! You ARE nice, and by pledging you have made my day, and I hope this project can “make” yours too!!!

WHERE WILL THE CONTRIBUTIONS GO? After providing me with squeals of delight, it will be used to pay my printer and the following costs related to mailing you your reward: envelopes, paper, and postage. Any funds over the goal will be set aside for additional printing. It is also possible the excess will facilitate future, more interactive projects.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Choose what you’d like to contribute and then choose your reward. If I reach my goal within the allotted time-frame, you’ll be contacted for the information to complete your reward. If I don’t reach my goal, you don’t pay a thing!

THE REWARD DETAILS: A “one-page” letter means at least one standard sheet of paper on one side. It could be more, but it will be at least that long.

All rewards will begin to be assembled at the end of the 90 day duration of the Kickstarter project, including interviews, blog writing, and letter writing.

By choosing a reward, you are giving me permission to send things to you in the mail. I won’t share your information with anyone else, and the address list will be shredded when all the rewards are mailed.

The rewards are based on mailing rates within the U.S.A., and therefore they will only be mailed to addresses within the United States. If you would like the pamphlets mailed outside the US, email me before you make a pledge and we can figure out what can be sent to you for what pledge amount.

ABOUT THE BE NICE. PROJECT: The Be Nice. project began in 2008 after an attempt to give away a movie pass completely failed. I realized what a challenge it can be to stay positive and friendly, and how difficult it is for some people to receive kindness. That day I conceived Be Nice. The goal of this ongoing work of art is to engage people in a reflective dialogue about all things related to civility, kindness, and positivity. In doing so, the project also acknowledges the less-sunny side of life and finds ways to have fun with it or, at the very least, turn the negative into a positive. The Be Nice. project includes a blog, which is facilitated further through Twitter and Facebook, as well as objects of analog communication: the pamphlet and postcard. The pamphlets and postcards are full-color reproductions of objects I hand embroider specifically for their mass-distribution.
