About this project
5/11 Update: WE'RE FUNDED!!
And with FOUR days to spare! Thank you all for your support! We're going to take a good Block Party and make it GREAT because of you all.
We are beyond THRILLED!
We could always use some more money to make the Block Party even greater, so our work isn't finished quite yet, four more days to go!
But for now, again: THANK YOU!
We’re working with citizens, businesses and property owners in The Granary District of Salt Lake City, UT to engage in grassroots, asset building, tenant-driven development to turn the District into a Compact, Connected, Complex (old, youg, rich, poor), Complete (daily needs in walking distance) neighborhood.
We’re throwing a Granary District Block Party on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 because…
With successful local businesses, a planned streetcar, and visionary property owners, the Granary District in Salt Lake City is ripe for growth and investment. Our mission for the Block Party is to create a temporary environment where one can visualize a place where people live, work, and play while incorporating local music, art, and food to activate and identify the Granary District as a place with great potential to become a thriving sustainable, compact, mixed-use, urban neighborhood. The Block Party will highlight the local businesses and existing assets to showcase the Granary District to city officials, investors, citizens, and neighbors to spur local investment and growth in an underutilized area of downtown.
We have a coalition of 100+ strong (where you can follow and join us!) to use the Block Party as a springboard to implement the human-centered neighborhoods we want to see.
We will do this by first, creating neighborhood anchors by incentivizing property owners with more density, etc. and adding value to their land by consolidating their business so there will be more room to bring in other like minded businesses that will increase value, revenue and foot-traffic. Then comes the people — residential, a coffee shop, art studios — and now a neighborhood anchor has been created by adding value to what is already existing. These pioneer neighborhood anchors will catalyze the rest of the District and make the future streetcar successful by giving people a reason to ride it!
WHY WE NEED FUNDING FOR THE BLOCK PARTY:
§ Streetscape design and material supplies
§ Event insurance
§ Supplies for artists to do neighborhood mural
§ Deposit for temporary trees and plantings
§ Deposit to rent pumpcart to represent future streetcar
§ Neighborhood banner, sign and poster printing
If we raise more money than our goal, it’ll be put towards future events for the District to implement neighborhoods.
We’ve come a long way and have made a lot of progress, but we need your help to get to the finish line and to make the Block Party happen.
A million thank you’s!!!
