News from the Text Mines!

Update #34 · Dec 19, 2012 · comment

I've got good news. The last two manuscripts for Midgard Tales have arrived and I'm doing development passes on them before turning them over to Christina for editing.

That puts us in a pretty good place, especially with the cartography and art underway, and  with Christina already started editing this into final shape (and through this winter). Layout and printing work will take up the Spring, so I think we're on target for a Summer 2013 hardcover book. Shipping all 4 elements in December 2013 was a little too optimistic.

Where does that leave various elements of the project? Legends of Midgard is furthest along, and will ship in January 2013. Highly promising, and of course Wolfgang will send out the PDF when it is ready. All signs point to good progress, though the cover art is behind.

Speaking of progress: Wolfgang Baur has turned over The Raven's Call to the editor! Art sketches are coming in for the Trollkin and the maps are with Alyssa Faden, a talented cartographer. Expect this as a late February or early March 2013 release in PDF (print to follow for some backers).

We haven't forgotten about Freeing Nethus, but Christina is currently editing more than writing. It is still on the radar, but likely will be the last element to ship.

I want to make sure we confirm playtester groups early on, so if you helped out with a completed report, check out the playtester thread and give me the names of your players-- and the name of your group, if you have one!

Additionally, there are all the smaller bits and pieces for senior backers, some talk about the next project, the Valhalla Calling contest still has almost 24 hours to submit your pitch, and, of course, there are all of the season's festivities. In short, we've got plenty to keep us busy until Midgard Tales is ready for your eager fingers.

I'm  feeling pleased about it, truth be told, and happy to see this come together. I can't thank you enough for being a part of it!

- Ben McFarland
