Help an art installation about Florida's freshwater springs travel to the Bellevue Arts Museum in Washington state.

Returning the Light is my installation of porcelain monoprints, large-scale ceramic sculpture, kiln-cast glass, and masked digital video that addresses the subject of the sublime as experienced in the natural setting of Florida’s threatened freshwater springs. This installation captures some of the magic of spending time swimming and tubing at these hidden gems of the Florida landscape, frozen in time and altered by memory.

I have been invited to show the entire installation at the 2012 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Biennial Invitational Exhibition: Push Play at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, Washington.

I am honored to be included in this exhibition. It is one of the major ceramic exhibitions of the year and an extraordinary opportunity, but I need your help to make my participation possible. The computers and projectors that I previously used to complete this installation were borrowed and cannot be shipped to Washington. Replacement equipment will need to be purchased. The 55 components of the installation, weighing over 800 pounds must be crated and shipped from Florida to Washington State, and I must fly out and stay to install this complex work of art.

A variety of “rewards” are available in return for your support of this project. Supporters at all pledge levels will receive a personalized postcard from Seattle and will be recognized by name in my publicity for the event. Other available rewards include full color screen prints, an intaglio print from an image used in the exhibition, a porcelain monoprint like one of those used in the exhibition, a custom-made porcelain monoprint from a digital image that you provide, and a workshop at your school or studio.  All of the prints will be printed in limited numbers especially for supporters of this project.

Feel free to contact me for more information if you are interested in hosting an image transfer on clay workshop.

More information about my art, including technical processes, media, and images, can be found on my Facebook page and on my website: charliecummings.com

My deepest thanks for your support,

Charlie Cummings
