A story of a pair of shoes that starts in the shop window and runs all the way to Auschwitz...

“I dedicate this film in memory of my grandfather Nachum Malkin and millions Jews who perished in the time of the Holocaust”.
Costa Fam, Director
"Shoes" is an international film project dedicated to Holocaust victims. It offers a new fresh take on a Jewish Сatastrophe that took over 6 million lives.
A story of a pair of shoes that starts in the shop window in 1930s and runs all the way to Auschwitz.
The work reflects director’s original concept: shoes is the only object in the shot. It’s a silent film where action is carried only by an original soundtrack inspired by Jewish folk motives and performed by a symphonic orchestra.
"This little film that we filmed in Poland, Czech Republic, Belarus, France, in which over 400 people took part in the making - has no specific identity or belong to any specific nationality”.
Greg Rydler, Producer (USA)
“The initial idea of “SHOES” was conceived on May 8th, 2011 when my friend Dmitry Parshkov together with his family visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Immediately, Dmitry called me and shared his thoughts and feelings about his experience. He also suggested to tell a story about a pair of women’s shoes, which begins at a window display of a shop and ends in the common grave in Auschwitz. The next morning, I already had the first draft of the screenplay. On July 2, 2011, I presented it to the public for the first time, at NY Film Academy’s (NYFA) graduating evening, where I obtained my film studies. It was also our first fundraiser. A week later, I went to Auschwitz and we agreed on filming there.”
Costa Fam, Director
"Filming anything other than a documentary on premises in Auschwitz, is prohibited. However, for us, the Administration made an exception".
Tanya Dovidovskaya, Producer
"In every shoe at Auschwitz, lies a separate fate that, unfortunately, will never be revealed. We can only assume how these people lived, worked, loved, raised their children, shared in their happiness, and how they suffered..."
Krzysztof Wiech, Producer (Poland)
"For me it was a great honor to bring my minor contribution to theis project. The of a pair of shoes shows how a normal human life no matter the religion, nationality or age could be destroyed, how fragile it is. It's a story of Shoah but also of any mass distraction of our time. It contributes to our emotional education, that we desperately need today".
Tania Rakhmanova, Producer (France)
“It was an honor for each one of us to partake in this international project”.
Michail Bykov, Producer (Czech Republic)
Today, the film is in its final stages.
It was filmed with help from donations, credit and personal expenses.
In order for us
- to finish shooting the film in Auschwitz and Prague, a series of production is still needed, such as:
- recorded music and orchestra
- post-production (editing, dubbing, color correction, Dolby)
Total: $79,800
"Our first donation for the film were from our mothers and close friends. That alone, is already a great honor and adds a bigger responsibility onto us..."
Alex Timofeev, Producer (Russia)
“We did it in memory of our grandfathers and for the future of our grandchildren".
Uriy Igrusha, Producer (Belarus)
This film will be shown at various international film festivals around the world, and donated to all museums dedicated to the Holocaust.
