About this project

Once upon a time there were three friends. They lived in Brooklyn, where they taught, built, gardened, and dreamed. They dreamed about learning to make goat cheese on a farm in the south of France, and riding through 18 hours of sunlight in Sweden in July. They dreamed about camping beneath the stars in the Alps, and exploring medieval castles in Spain. They loved their gardens, their friends, their collective houses, their jobs and their schools, but something made them wonder, what else is out there in the world? How do other communities’ local food systems work? What do other cities’ bike networks look like? Every day they talked and talked about getting on their bicycles and riding away to Europe. They were tired of doing the same things every day; they were ready to make their great escape…

Hi there!
We're Stephen, Jess & Christi. This summer we're leaving good old Brooklyn behind to seek adventure in Europe. Our project, Farmcycle, is about growth, exploration, and education.

We will be visiting and working on approximately 30 farms in Europe traveling by bicycle. Each farm was selected to give us opportunities to learn about herbal medicine, biodynamic farming, eco-building, and artisanal cheese-making. We will also be visiting with artists, friends, and communities of all different sorts.

To fund and document our adventure, we need your help! We're going to create a book of our journey; part bike tour/farming guide, part photo journal, part recipe book, part artistic endeavor. Everything we learn we will bring back to the communities we live in and share freely. We see this trip as a new form of education for ourselves and our communities, as a way to empower others to do things they might have thought impossible.

Our bikes are all tuned up and our plane tickets are bought! But we need an additional $1 for each mile of the journey, and with your help, we can reach our goal of $3,000. In exchange for funding us, you'll get all kinds of cool hand-crafted items and a book that just might inspire you to have an adventure yourself!

Special Thanks to: Grier, Athena, Schoemann, Ish, Hester Street Collaborative, The Ballet (the band), and Mother Earth.

Stephen, Christi, and Jess met building houses in New Orleans and living cooperatively in Brooklyn. We care about self-sufficiency, alternative education, community building, local farming movements, and riding our bikes really really far.
