A film about Vermont citizens support of a program that turns cow manure into renewable energy: saving farms and our environment!

At the turn of the century, rural farms dramatically declined as agriculture prices plummeted. Today, those farms face extinction. Vermont, its utility company, and its citizens decided they were not about to let this happen.

In 2005, Vermont investigated a process that would take cow manure and turn it into renewable energy. Not only does this process help keep rural farms afloat, but it creates cow bedding, safe fertilizer and removes methane gas from the atmosphere (which accounts for 25% of all green house gasses). Major Vermont names like Long Trail brewery, Green Mountain College and Vermont Clothing Company quickly realized the benefits of the program and aided in its development.

Now that the process has caught fire across Vermont (over 10 farms are part of the program!), we decided it’s about time to make a film! Our production crew consists of 12 of Emerson College's best aspiring filmmakers; all eager to film in Vermont for the first time. We plan to document not only the process that creates this energy but the community effort to make it happen, stressing the relationship between these two entities.

In addition to interviews with the famers, Green Mountain Power, well-known Vermont businesses and several politicians involved in the process, we will get viewers up close and personal with the cows, and, most importantly, their poop!

Together, the farmers, their cows and the Vermont community will tell the story of the balance between modern living, agriculture and our environment. But, in order to tell this story, we need your help!

To make this project happen, these are some of the important things we will need:

Transportation (plane, van and car)- $3,500

Lodging and food (for 12 crew members)- $2,100

Post-Production costs (archival images of agriculture and climate decline, harddrives)- $350

Marketing (film festival fees, website fees)- $508

Thank you for giving a $#*!    ;)
