rocket is an eggcup without the cup.
It is made from a zinc-aluminum alloy through diecasting process, 40 gramm of weight and appropriate for any size of egg.

Its form and design is as logical, reduced and minimal as an egg itself.

There is just a ring which can hold eggs off different sizes, placed on a tripod for best stability. You don´t need more to enjoy your boiled breakfast egg…

#2 Why supporting this project ?

This is the new generation of eggcup. Why stick with the old stuff when the rest of your houseware and appliances is stylish and different?

This unique design piece is no mass producted anonymous item - in fact its the next logic step in creating your perfect ambience. And once you are all set with all the rockets you need, this also makes for a perfect housewarming gift.

For realizing this idea and going into production, I need to buy a tooling and with your support I will be able to.

#3 The rewards

As I am pitching here for a tooling, it makes sense that if the project will succeed you get parts out of the funded tooling. The first production batch is going to be used to fulfill all rewards. rocket is a multifunctional design piece. There are many different ways to use rocket - even if you are not so much into boiled eggs...be creative...

The story of rocket is as simple as the eggcup itself

It must have happened some day last summer, during a Sunday morning breakfast. It struck me: why does an eggcup always have to look like a bowl?

That was when I was beginning to create the idea of a new form of eggcup. I thought it would be much more efficient if the egg is only held by a simple ring - any size of egg will fit inside – that´s all you need.  

Of course I started with some scribbles and - most important - with a short note on a sheet of paper not to forget about the idea. It was something that I wanted to realize, but the idea needed time to process and to become an actual project. From time to time I was thinking of it. I was imagining a small production, but with no certain plan of how or when to do it.
More or less after one year the time was right – the idea was reanimated and with your support and kickstarter.com I think it could now finally be realized.

The decision for the form and the material.

For me the design and its form have to be as logic and minimalistic as they can be. After one year of carrying the idea around I came up with this form:

A ring, which is able to support eggs in different sizes. The ring is held by a tripod of legs. A tripod guarantees you the best and most endurable stability. Just imagine a photographer´s tripod…
The name “rocket” came easy as I was finished designing the cup – if you place an egg inside the eggcup, you can see the resemblance to a lifting rocket.

As the form was decided, I moved on to the question of material. At first I had the idea of a nice and fun-colored plastic piece. It was an obvious choice - cheap and easy...
But this is not my idea of sustainable design!

That´s why I started to investigate about the possibility to do it in ceramics/porcelain. I think porcelain/ceramics is a wonderful and natural material with excellent haptic and optical characteristics. Also, it is already common on the breakfast table and in other parts of everyday life.
But it turned out that this filigree and light form I designed is not feasible to produce in traditional ways of crafting ceramic pieces.
So I decided to give the industrial ceramic a chance. This high-tec ceramic is used e.g. for ceramic brakes on cars or for artificial hip joints. But unfortunately it turned out it was too expensive to produce the egg cup this way.

After some time searching I finally found a material which fits all requirements best: A special aluminum alloy - which is normally used for small parts which need to be very precise, endurable and accurate. Just think of your tap in the sink or belt buckles.
With this material you have also the chance to finish the pieces in different colors and styles. Additionally, the feel of this material is much better than plastic and it is also more valuable. It is a modern material which goes with the modern design.

By the way, this alloy is made out of recycled aluminum.

Why do I need you ?

I made the decision to now take this step to produce the first batch, or skip the idea once and for all. As I am just starting out as a self consistent designer, I could not cover the cost for the tooling, necessary to produce the eggcup.

I was finally determined to ask for some help to finalize this project.
The tooling I will need to start my production (it is a one cavity tooling) will cost 8.200. - € (which is about 10.500 US $). This is the amount I am trying to fund with your help here on kickstarter.
Everybody who helps realizing this project will get great rewards!
The first production batch which is scheduled for beginning of December will be used for the rewards. So you will be definitely the first one to have your breakfast egg lifted up by rocket.

The situation and team.

As I am located in Munich, Germany, I did not have the access to the US market, which will be of great interest once we get funded. With Lara Gates, a close friend, I found the right person to help me with the US market. Her husband is a well known architect, and she has got good connections to design orientated people. She will be responsible for the US market in terms of successful funding. I will take care of the European market, the production and quality issues.

The production will take place in Brescia, Italy, where I found a company which can produce rocket the way we imagined it.
