WWII German deserter, Conner Patton, comes to a cabin which houses the final archive from a secret mission to burn German archives.
(This is a 16 mm short film, which will be premiering at the UCSB Reel Loud Film Festival)
A summary of the plot
When a mysterious man, CONNER, comes to an abandoned cabin in the middle of winter - he finds the Final Archive (a journal and 2 minute - 16 mm film reel) of an unknown German officer who began writing a journal to document a secret mission to burn archives in the wake of German defeat.
As he reads the journal, flashbacks to the missions themselves interlace Conners story to tell the story of PATTON, one of the members of an extermination squad, consisting of 4 members, who were assigned the task of burning the archives.
Patton and his squad arrive at their final destination, only to find they have been set up by the General in charge of the entire mission. A firefight ensues, killing everyone but Patton and his fellow officer, BAUER - who is mortally wounded. Before he dies, Bauer gives Patton a key to a locker.
Patton goes to the locker and finds a set of keys and the address to the abandoned cabin that hides the Final Archive. He decides to go to the cabin and finish the mission he started.
How much money do we need... and why?
We're hoping to raise $2,000 for this project, and any amount helps! I see what you're thinking - how could a 7 and 1/2 min student film cost so much?! Good question! The majority of our costs go towards equipment rental: we have to rent camera and lighting packages to ensure that we get the look and feel we want for this project. Additionally, the nature of the Reel Loud Festival (in which The Archive will premier) dictates that it must literally be made using film which, unfortunately, isn't cheap. Not only must we purchase the film stock, but we also have to pay to have it processed! And that's still not even touching on the issue of having it transferred to digital media (DVDs) after the festival!
How exactly does this Kickstarter thing work?
Kickstarter is a website that helps artists raise funds for their projects from people they know, and don't know, through the internet. Amazon handles the money side of things and ensures that transactions are secure and reliable. Also, if we can't meet our goal then we don't get your money - in other words, you pledge an amount to donate, but we won't actually receive it unless the total amount of pledges meets or exceeds our $2,000 goal by the end of the donation window.
Once the donation period is over, we'll get in touch with you regarding your rewards (as outlined on the right side of the screen). Since we have to get equipment and shoot and edit the film in May, we'll have your rewards sent out no later than June.
Thanks for all your help! From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your support... without you The Archive would never see the light of day!
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
