About this project
Elvis
“Elvis,” is the story of a 15 year old Dominican teenager Elvis Delgado, whose father is being held at a immigration detention center. Elvis wants to go see his father but learns that he is also undocumented and runs the risk of deportation.
The Facts
Elvis' story is not uncommon these days. According to a recent article in the Harvard Educational Review (Suarez Orozco et al), "Among the estimated 5.5 million children growing up with unauthorized parents, approximately 1 million are themselves unauthorized."
The sad truth is that most of these children are not aware they are undocumented. At a time when adolescent passage into adulthood is marked by achieving certain milestones, the Elvis' of this country have to adapt to living below the radar.
