A writer, producer and director for 20+ years, Mary’s point of reference is the dignity of the human story and the power of visual storytelling. Her work has been seen on-air, online, at live events and on digital kiosks in Times Square. Recently she completed a short documentary about the sculptor Jaume Plensa. AFTER THE WAR is her first independently produced documentary feature.
Just 200 people at $50 and we have sent this valuable and compelling project out into the world. If everyone who has already backed this project encourages just 2 people to contribute that amount its on it way. When I cut through all the ambivalence about giving more it was remarkably easy.
It's so simple it just might work!
Congratulations on achieving funding! I'm very excited to see this film.
Great project & wonderful trailer. I've just backed it with a little something!
Congratulations, Mary! Now for the next $20,000.............
I think Barbara summed things up pretty nicely!
Congrats to you Mary. I'm so so proud. Getting this far so fast means what you are doing is totally RIGHT, and NEEDED. Now, everyone else who SAID they were going to donate.... STILL DO! Because Kickstarter takes a significant % of the $, and the challenge is still on until Sept. So let's get it up to $25k that way Mary will have some breathing room for this important project. You will not be "charged" until September. If every friend of Mary's gave $25 it would happen. That's only 200 people. Where are you?!?!? I know Mary has 200 friends.....
So happy for you. This is great.
Congrats, Sis... halfway to the goal of telling an important story! You are gonna make it!

My first exposure to Claude AnShin Thomas and the Buddha's teachings were at a 2007 retreat at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY entitled, "The Costs of War, Violence and Denial." Claude AnShin Thomas, a Zen Buddhist monk and wounded combat veteran, taught 7 of us how to sit and breathe through violence-related pain and suffering and how to tame the anger and destructive behavior that usually followed. This year, attendance grew to more than 60 men, women, children and friends of people affected by violence.
Those of us who have killed for our country, AnShin taught us, are no different from those who sent us or those who sat idly by and didn't object or protest. Thomas' noble efforts to help us understand and deal with our suffering are stories that must be told because veterans' suicide rates and homelessness are spiraling out of control. Recognizing and correcting the problems that military veterans face "after the war" is a worthwhile cause that far exceeds the shallow and effortless "Thank you for your service" falling from everyones' lips.
Thank you for helping us to tell our stories. I support your project in every way.
Mary, am so happy to see you pull this project together and move forward with this dream. How beautiful and thrilling to see it taking shape. Cheers to you for following your passion and how lucky we are to be able to partake in this touching and powerful story about such a harsh reality. It's story we need to hear.
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."
from 'The Lord of the Rings'
blessings on your journey.

As a Veteran, I believe in what you are doing, I hope this thing goes HUGE!
YAY Mary! This looks truly wonderful, I am so happy for you. No wait, I am happy for US, to be able to know this man's story and connect with his work. Thank you!
Mary, you have the vision and commitment to bring this deeply important film to life.
I believe in you.
