About this project
Worse Than Queer pairs up ten international video artists with local performance art.
Basically interested people-- that could be a group of friends, an art gallery, an academic institution, or dive-bar—calls us and tells us they want to put on a WTQ event!We send them the WTQ Box Kit which includes, everything they need to throw the event. Included is a DVD with our ten international vide artists, a data cd with all of the graphics and images needed for promotional posters and handbills—so each city can customize their own show. Then it’s up to the host of the local event to find performance talent, a venue and an audience! Mix it all together and you have a Worse Than Queer Event!! A night aimed at pushing the boundaries of the word queer. WTQ events are slated to happen in San Francisco (duh) Sydney, Australia, Houston, Chicago and L.A. In fact, the Worse Than Queer proto-type & DVD made it's debut at the Queer Cultural Center's QIY-Queer It Yourself: Tools for Survival exhibit as part of the 2011 National Queer Arts Festival held in San Francisco! click here to check it out and read the ARTIST BIOS
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN...These shows are only the beginning, Worse Than Queer aims to put on 150 events in the next year. 150 x Money for DVD replication, DVD packaging, Box Kit Production, National and International shipping, a video projector to take on the road, printing for posters and handbills.
With the help of these funds, we will get even more artists involved...we can pay an artist to design/silk-screen the box mailers, another artist to design the DVD cover, and send the boxes out to host cities/groups that will get together performers local to their area to accompany the DVD screening.
With the donations you send us through kick-starter, this global/local queer art extravaganza can happen…maybe even in your own backyard!

(written by Coral Short) Mev Luna is a new strong voice in post-queer movement using their twisted modern day perversion as a new form of sexual identity. They move effortlessly through heavy real topics of gender and sexuality in an accessible, humorous way. Relying on performative transformation, a contemporary approach to textiles in a collaboration with media art. They are currently working on a BFA from California College of the Art.
