Almost there! Additional pledges towards our full goal...
Dear Backers and new visitors to our page,
Just a few days ago, I was losing sleep because it seemed we might fall short of our goal. I'd wake up and immediately think about reposting the link on Facebook, or reminding a friend or family member to contribute. But I realized, soon, that I wasn't alone. Our fundraising team and supporters came forward and contacted their networks, passed out flyers, and even made phone calls. We saw people come out of the woodwork - new supporters, people I haven't even met yet, putting in $5, or $25 and even $250. And comments, even videos, of support for the vision of the work.
This all affirmed that people knew that this work is beyond me as a writer, beyond our collaborating team and beyond any one of us. The work is about a vision - for critical conversations about the how we view our bodies and the systems that create and reinforce negative messages; for workshops in which we can process, shape & tell our stories; for our complex histories to be made visible. A vision for this project to serve women of color, women of all backgrounds, and all of us because each of our stories belongs to us all.
I thank you with my full heart for joining us on this journey and letting others know that ART with this kind of a vision matters to you!
Even though the minimum is close to being reached, I encourage anyone visiting the site for the first time to please continue to pledge - because on top of the $5K at stake with Kickstarter, we still have an additional $1K we must raise to get our Matching Grant from the East Bay Community Foundation. And anything additional to that will be put into the pot for further development, workshops, artist fees, and the world premiere in 2013! Imagine: the budget for a full premiere is over $40K! So... everything you pledge will be put to work!
Thank you again - till the next update! -
