"Yemanja: Mother of the Deep" is an inspirational performance piece; a creative interplay of live music, song and dance.
Please support the performing arts and help us raise $5000 to pay for the expenses for our Live music & dance performance and world premiere of Yemanja: Mother of the Deep. Performances will be held for 5 days at the Electric Lodge Performing Arts Center, 1416 Electric Ave, in Venice, California on March 30 at 8pm, March 31 at 8pm, April 1 at 6pm, April 7 at 8pm and April 8 at 6pm. Your gracious financial contribution will be used toward the pre and post production costs for the show including; theater rental fees, artist fees for 9 performers (8 person live band and dance soloist), music and dance rehearsal space, lighting and sound design, costume design, music production, props, design and printing of flyers and marketing materials, photographers, videographers, editor, ushers, etc. Our fundraising campaign will run 29 days leading up to the world premiere of our show beginning March 1 through March 29. ABOUT OUR SHOW: “Yemanja: Mother of the Deep” is an inspirational performance piece; a creative interplay of Live music, song and dance that will engage and transport its audience to a journey evoking the transformative spirit of the sea. Dive into a world of myths and legends of Yemanjá, the revered water goddess and universal mother figure, set to the eclectic soundtrack of driving polyrhythms, ethereal harmonies, spoken word and Kimberly Miguel Mullen's solo movement performance. Music composed by producer Alberto López (Belú Music) will accompany texts penned by critically acclaimed songstress Mia Doi Todd whose album, Cosmic Ocean Ship was awarded New York Times, "Top 10 Albums of 2011". Also featured will be the musical talents of extraordinary Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento, multi-instrumentalist Andres Renteria and percussionists Evan Greer and Kahlil Cummings, among others. Yemanja is an offering combining the creative forces of Mullen’s traditionally inspired movement, Doi Todd’s poetic folk style and Lopez’s world music palette, forming a point of artistic intersection in search of a universal expressive language. Each performance will conclude with an open forum, allowing audience members to exchange ideas and opinions with the performers. This will the first onstage collaboration among these artists.
