An animated series following the exploits of nine beautiful and strange monster hunters.
Okay. Here's the deal. This idea has been rattling around in my head for the better part of two decades. The majority of my life. One day, two years ago, I finally decided that it needed to be made a reality. It's a story that I feel must be told, and the only venue it can be told through is animation. I've been a fan of cartoons all my life, and this is penultimate culmination of all my love for those shows. Blurring Lines is a cartoon made for everyone like me who got up at 6am on Saturday mornings for years on end, and is now an adult and wants to go back to those days. It's an action cartoon for grown-ups (I'd say "adults" but that makes it sound like porn). I could go on tooting my own horn, but hopefully in the end the show will speak for itself.
Blurring Lines is an animated series about nine characters who, after a strange transformation, find themselves thrust into a world of mystery, horror, and fantasy. Armed with bizarre powers, artifact weapons, and high-tech gadgets, they set out on a journey to find out who (and indeed, what) they are. These characters split their time between trying to live normal lives, working as paranormal investigators / monster hunters, dealing with their unusual and "needful" bodies, and trying to stop the ultimate evil from destroying all of reality.
Thank you for your interest in Blurring Lines.
FAQ
-
Under ideal circumstances, the $6000 will be a springboard that will allow us to get the first three episodes finished and polished and ready to pitch to producers and what not, who will then fund the project from there.
-
It's difficult to measure without having the animation in front of you, but my projections are roughly 7-9 minutes each.
-
We will have an idea of how long each episode takes to make after finishing the first episode, and this will not be typical as the number of people working on it may change over time. I would like for Blurring Lines to be on Television (most likely Cartoon Network's adult swim), but more likely it will be somewhere on the web. and DVDs will be available as well.
-
There will be voice acting and full animation, sound effects and music. The teaser is not an ideal example of what the show will look like.
-
From what I have planned for where things will go, there is PLENTY of room for 25 cameos, just not in the first three episodes. I am considering adding to or changing the $100 reward to include something more concrete than just my "promise" that they get a cameo later on in the series.
-
Most likely, they will be a background character with a line or two, and/or who ends up doing something in a scene, like saving someone or being saved by one of the main characters. I will try to tailor the sequence to what the backer has told me about their character, and I will take any suggestions or requests from the backer under consideration. As the reward itself says, I can't make any promises, though.

Well as I'm sure you're aware, I don't want to give away much in the form of spoilers, but... One of the defining themes is the concept of how, through routine, the fantastic can be made to seem mundane. With how things progress for the characters, their jobs as paranormal investigators eventually just seems normal and even boring. That's just one of the themes, though :)
-
Based on how that's worded, I would say both. There is definitely some friction and sarcasm between the characters initially, and definitely lots of learning to use powers and be a team as things progress.
-
Without giving spoilers, again, I would say both. Some of the characters have more dubious morals than the others.
-
There is an overarcing main enemy, yes
-
Well I can certainly say that some of the "lines" that get "blurred" include male and female, myth and fact, man and beast, good and evil, as well as the lines of scale (there is sizeshifting at certain points in the series).
-
Each character represents an artistic reinterpretation of the concept of classic mythological creatures (dragon, gryphon, basilisk, phoenix, hydra, kitsune, unicorn, balrog, wyvern). They also represent my personal elemental system (water, fire, earth, air, shadow, light, storm, moon, ether). See if you can tell which is which :) I took great pains to give them all a unique feel, based around how they look, behave, as well as their weapons, spells, and gadgets. The story is that nine ordinary people transformed somehow to become what you see in the video. More than that, I'd rather you see.
-
Well they ARE anthropomorphic hermaphrodites. The world the story takes place in is not a furry one. It's the "real" human world with some minor (and major, but hidden) tweaks.
-
The characters all have a heightened libido. It's tied to their biology. Some of them embrace it, some of them shun it. They also have a need to seduce ordinary human males and females on a semi-regular basis. And they are also hermaphrodites. Other than these facts, which obviously crank up the sexuality of the series signifcantly in and of themselves, Blurring Lines is a show about action and sci-fi/fantasy, not sex. I stressed that it is not "porn" not because there isn't a lot of sexual content, but because there is also a PLOT and characters and so forth.
-
it will be influenced by where the series ends up being displayed, but with the first three episodes, namely episode 3, which contains the series' first sex scene, it is brief and tasteful, if intense. Nothing is shown, only hinted at, talked about in dialogue/narration, or shown briefly in silhouette.
-
One of the themes I intend to put out that is a personal belief of mine is that sex is not a sin. There is nothing corruptive about it. While it is not part of the overall storyline, yes, sexual content will be a key part of Blurring Lines. Just not all the time.
-
There will be sexual tension and fanservice and sex scenes. Again, just not all the time.
-
As the girls are monster hunters, there will be a fair amount of violence. Though I err on the side of "action."
-
There will be blood, but not in excess. Some scenes will include graphic violence, but I will take a nod from Doctor Who and just hint at what exactly is happening instead of directly showing it.
-
Definitely as an unfortunate reality,
-
There is a significant amount of content in Blurring Lines that intellectual elitists will point out and debunk. Most notable amongst which may be the level of bosom my characters posess. Combine that with the amount of weaponry and gear and acrobatics they do at times, it can seem somewhat ridiculous. While I personally have semi-reasonable pseudo-scientific explanations for these, I default to the "rule of cool." If it's enjoyable, it shouldn't need a thesis explaining how it's done.
-
Well, if I felt "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" made sense as a draw for Blurring Lines, I would have used it. The girls have large appetites for food, and in general are capable of eating just about anything and staying fit. It's not a major thing, its just for comical effect. Omnomnomnom.
