Hi Guys,
I am
so happy and proud to say that "We Did It!” The Backyard Garden Project
has successfully completed its goal of building six new gardens
throughout the Houston area!
Everyone
came together with smiles on their faces and a positive agenda to build
long term, sustainable gardens in Houston backyards and that's exactly
what we did. The volunteers came together armed with shovels, tennis
shoes, garden gloves, bug off and water and built six backyard gardens,
all of which are currently under cultivation.
My
hope is that this won't be our last round, and that we will build even
more backyard gardens this spring. This project is so near
and dear to my heart because it not only teaches children how to grow
veggies, but also teaches adults and provides entire families with the
tastiest, freshest, and most nutrient rich vegetables from only a few
steps away. Undoubtedly the best gourmet watermelons I've ever tasted
were from my own backyard and I consider myself blessed to be able to
share this deliciousness with my fellow gardeners and members of the
community. In fact just last week was our very first crop harvest, and
half the team received gourmet lettuce, heirloom red kohlrabi , heirloom
balloon peppers, and pepper cress.
Finally, I would like to say
Thank You to all of you who contributed
financially towards this project. Thank You to the hard working volunteers and the garden hosts all across the city, for
trusting me enough to dig up your yards and replace it with awesome
vegetable gardens!
This
is not the end, but just the beginning of the Backyard Garden Project.
Look for our next Kickstarter project soon that will help build our
spring gardens. If you want to contribute without waiting for the new
Kickstarter, you can do so at our website at www.healtyhabitshouston or contact me directly. In the meantime, please enjoy the before and after pictures of our fall gardens by clickingHERE or go directly to http://healthyhabitshouston.blogspot.com.
Thanks again for helping make the Backyard Garden Project an outstanding success!
Great Big Bear Hug,
Kim Perry
