My first vinyl release in history! A collaboration with my favorite percussionist in the world. New Goal: $3,000

UPDATE: New goal: $3,000 - $4,000

The more you donate the more we can record!!!

Update amendment: We can't pick which songs to do and which NOT to do. We want to record them all. Also, I set this goal to budget for 500 copies but I'd sure love to make 1,000!

Instead of strings we are going to have dueling clarinets. This is not because I don't love strings... because I do. I just also really love clarinets. Also, no promises, but I think there might be vibraphone!

My very first vinyl release! Help make it happen. For those who fancy ipods and such, there will be a high quality digital download as well!

The story is that I met Anthony Poretti at the beginning of February. He is now my favorite drummer ever. He isn't just a drummer, he is a percussionist. His approach to percussion is so unbelievably delicate and unusually beautiful. We have played a lot together since we met and we'd like to make a record of it. Check out his band, Spirits of the Red City

Anthony and I are heading to LA at the same time, just by chance, and decided it was fate. I happen to know a ton of incredibly talented musicians in LA that I haven't had the chance to record with yet. I've also been looking for an excuse to record with my friend, Jaron Luksa, who tours with Amanda Palmer and The Dresden Dolls and owns a studio in LA. This is the perfect time, I say!

Just to make this a really irresistible plan, I've decided to also include Alex Thompson. He is an overgrown choir boy that I toured with last fall. His falsetto will make you melt into butter on toast. He comes up with the most beautiful vocal harmonies I've ever heard. I'm going to fly him out from Tennessee to help arrange and record the vocal parts.

The SONGS:

-The first is a song I've been working on for almost a year. Its an arrangement of lyric-less vocal parts. You can hear my rough recording in the video.

-The second is my newest song, Sister Scarecrow. I've been working on it for a few months and its really different from anything else I've written in a really great way. I'm really proud of it and I'd love for it to carve its way onto vinyl.

-There are three more and I'm not sure if all or two of these three will make the cut. These will be on the digital download, not on the vinyl itself (as 7" only have room for one song on each side). Option one: a percussion driven, doo-wop version of an older song of mine called Billy Blue. Option two: A song I wrote four years ago about a tour van explosion in Longview, WA. Option 3: A cover of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man".

The FUNDS:

Recording: $1000

Mastering: $300

Printing: $700

Flying Alex out from Tennessee: $250

Accounting for fees taken from total: $100

Total: $2,350

If we exceed my goal I'll be able to pay the musicians who record on the record. Also, there will likely be incidentals... there are always incidentals. If we go way over I'll spend an extra day in the studio instead of home recording the overdubs. So don't hesitate. It will never be too much. Making records is expensive and I have so much I want to do (like put out my last record as an LP).
