About this project

The Concept - Returning to their hometown after a long absence, Hansel and Gretel are forced to confront the ghosts of their childhood. Was she really a witch? Were they truly responsible for her demise? These questions of morality and memory are played out through a combination of dance, music and film in this dark twist on the cherished tale.

The Space - Located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, 17 Frost is a new venue which houses three massive projection screens which surround the audience, creating a unique and immersive theatrical experience. Expect to be lost in a dense forest, surrounded by gingerbread walls, and brought into Hansel and Gretel's world through a series of short films.

What We Need - The script is complete, the music has been written, the parts have been cast, the space has been secured--what we need now is some cash to make the production sparkle. Here's a quick rundown of what we'd use the funds for:

• $1000 for musicians: The music has been written for guitar, accordion, djembe, xylophone, tambourine and cello. We'd like to hire four accomplished musicians to bring the score to life and to accompany the cast on the original cast recording.

• $1500 for camera equipment: This would help fund the purchase of new video cameras for 17 Frost so we could capture the performance from multiple angles for the DVD and internet streaming.
• 
  
• $500 for costumes: We want our cast of 10 looking their best for opening night!
• 
  
• $500 for illustrated backdrops: While many of the backdrops will be film, we'd like to bring the memories to life in a surreal, storybook style.

The show opens September 16, 2010 and runs for two weekends (7 performances total).
