Radiant Labs, created by two artists, solves the problem of disappearing traditional darkrooms and offers a workspace to other artists.
We are artists living and working in New York and met as graduate students at Columbia University. We both shoot color film and make chromogenic color prints and our materials and processes are essential to making our work. With the explosion of digital photography, traditional darkrooms are closing all the time and we find ourselves without a place to print.
We created Radiant Labs to solve this problem. Soon we will have a place to work without time restrictions and be able to offer a workspace to other artists. Another important aspect to our communal lab is having a place to meet to exchange ideas, critique and collaborate. Radiant Labs will include a space dedicated to hosting shows and workshops.
We are really excited about the 800 square foot studio space we found in Long Island City to house our photo lab. It will offer four private color darkrooms, two of which will also include black & white printing facilities. We have already received a generously donated 30" wide color processor (thanks Tom Roma!) that is the backbone of our workspace and we can’t wait to put it into use.
To finish our build-out we need to raise at least $7500 to acquire a few more pieces of equipment as well as construction materials. You can help us get Radiant Labs up and running and keep analog color and black & white darkroom practices accessible to the community.
Please consider making a donation - every bit helps - and we will send you a gift along with a big thank you on our website.
