SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare is a fast paced, action-filled, easy to play card game that anyone can enjoy! For two (and up to four or more if you’re brave) players, SKIRMISH delivers on all levels. With a rule set that is quick to pick up and easy to master SKIRMISH offers whatever depth of strategy you desire.

In developing SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare I had three main goals in mind:

·         Keep it Family

·         Keep it Fun

I also strove to adhere to one major design mechanic:

·       YOU ONLY NEED THE CARDS

There is no need for dice, counters, complicated boards, pencils, pens, paper, timers or any other paraphernalia. You only need the cards.

How the Game Works

In SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare the goal is simply to bust through your opponents defenses and capture their flag. To accomplish this, you will SKIRMISH against your opponent constantly on the field of battle using the cards that you’ve drawn into your hand.

When you first look at SKIRMISH the condition for victory is easy: just make sure that your SKIRMISHER on the field of battle has a higher rating than your opponent’s SKIRMISHER. But things would be just too easy if that was all there is to it…

You've got to watch out for bombs, spies and snipers, all the while using your cards strategically for field reviews, reinforcements and the ever-popular bomb and spy busting.

The strategy is as deep as you make it. Should you open with a Bomb to get a head start at breaking your opponent’s defenses? Do you bait their largest rated cards out into the field with one of your lower rated cards? Do you take the gamble of sending a Sniper out looking for their top rated cards? Do you expect a bomb to be coming and send out a Bomb Buster?

Whatever you do there is no guarantee of victory as you have to learn to read your opponent and out bluff him. The tides can quickly turn from that of sure victory to nail biting defeat and visa versa.

All about SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare

You’ll notice that the art of SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare follows the above goals as well. The art is all simple, clean and fun. I did not want to alienate or scare anyone away with overly colorful and/or detailed artwork. The art is easily recognizable so that game play is not hampered but can flow quickly from one match to the next.

The same can be said for the card names and their text. I needed the cards to be as friendly as they could be, so cards that have any special abilities have those ability names found in parentheses; and if you need to know what they do you can refer to the quick reference card or the instructions. Once again it was a simple, clean fun design that I was going for.

Those were my rules, my vision, my mantra and I kept them as my focus point. Even though the temptation to keep adding cards, rules, art and more text kept coming back around and around to tease me, I stayed strong and went with my first vision. And do you know what? My vision was right. SKIRMISH is a complete blast and complete enjoyment to play and to watch.

This first edition of SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare is based on and inspired by the military. By following this theme I was able to easily visualize and bring my idea to life. But SKIRMISH does not stop at the military theme, it only begins there! From here the basis of the game design and the card mechanics all stay the same. The face art and name of each card can change to anything or any other theme that you or I would want. I have other themes waiting on the side and if things go well they will see the fruition (for example, Surf vs. Turf, Cats vs. Dogs, 80’s vs. 90’s, etc.).

There is nothing better than a great multiplayer family game and that is just what SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare delivers. After years of playing many, many other games I have created a great game that brings families and friends back together at the dining room table for great times. Many of today’s family games are too complicated with pages upon pages of rules. SKIRMISH was created to offer a unique gaming experience that is less complicated and more fun.

I need your help and donations to get SKIRMISH up off the ground and into the hands of anyone looking for a great game. I have an extremely solid game and with your help we can make SKIRMISH: Modern Card Warfare a new household name in gaming together! Although I am coming to Kickstarter.com for financial backing, I intend to maintain full control over my product. I’m not just looking to sell a game; I’m looking to sell a game that offers all who play it a great time!

Donor pledge money is being used to produce the initial 500 set run (that’s 1000 card decks, with two decks to a set) and remaining funds left it will be used for marketing, website hosting, storage and the development of the next SKIRMISH theme deck set (game play stays the same). These initial decks will be high quality plastic casino style cards. I want the game to not only be played but to be played continuously so I need the card stock to be as durable as possible. I have developed a marketing plan that will put these cards on the shelves of local vendors and select websites as soon as inventory permits.
