School of Visual Arts Senior Jessica Maria Manley
My name is Jessica Maria Manley and I am currently a senior at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Is there a definitive turning point in one’s life transitioning from childhood to adulthood? What makes these two worlds completely different? These questions are what led me to begin my photographic exploration into the life of my younger sister. Inspired by the delusional ideals of women set by the media I set out to explore the impact of such standards on a young girl.
Although these industry standards are the norm often we are taken back by the reality of the messages we are sending to children.
What is viewed as odd or disturbing can be linked to the disruption of the moral code, ingrained both in the observer as well as the subject matter being viewed.
My work, by design, creates internal interferes within one’s psyche. I plan to continue this project after receiving my BFA in Photography This upcoming, May
My goal for this project is to be able to produce a large body of images to raise awareness of this crucial and damaging process that our media has instilled in young minds.
