Who is Cookies & Corks?

A perfect hostess knows how to effortlessly make a party stand out. Cookies & Corks’ sweet and savory cookies are that something special that keeps people laughing, eating…and enjoying all night long!

Leah Kuo and Laura Englander, the duo behind Cookies & Corks, are always searching for ways to showcase the possibilities of their cookies. Not too long ago, at their local wine shop, they suggested pairing wine with cookies as a way to inject some fun into the typical wine tasting. The owner quipped, “Ladies, the only thing you pair with wine is a baguette.” Taking the challenge head-on, Leah and Laura sought to show him what cookies could do. They quickly realized they were on to something and began perfecting daring flavor combinations uniquely tailored to pair with wine varietals.

Cookies & Corks is much more than a display or extra plate at the table, it’s a conversation starter, engaging everyone as guests experiment with different cookie and wine combinations...we've even been trying out (and enjoying) pairings with beer and spirits! 

We offer nine sweet and savory flavors of cookies that we encourage people to try with wine.  Our gourmet, artisan cookies are baked using only the finest ingredients like kosher salt (yes, they're also Kosher!), dark chocolate, lemon, apricot, and sage.  Our easy to use pairing guide is the perfect starting point. For instance, pair the Zesty Lemon Cookie with Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, or pair the White Cheddar Rosemary Cookie and Sea Salt Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie with a Cabernet Sauvignon. The combinations are endless!

Why the need to go "GREEN"?

As Cookies & Corks grows, we also recognize that our strength and success is based on our ability to remain relevant by continuously evolving to meet the tangible and emotional needs of our consumers.  Whether it is refusing to use artifical preservatives, colors, or partially hydrogentated oils in our cookies (which we have always done--our cookies are trans fat free), or changing the exterior of our product to match our interior...we're ready to make this world better one cookie at a time...one box at a time.

Our Goal:

We want to print 20,000 eco-friendly boxes to present to over 17,000 specialty food buyers at the 2012 Summer Fancy Food Show this June in our own backyard, Washington, DC.  The goal to get the buyers to purchase the product so we can distribute it to the masses and people can bring the joy of Cookies & Corks into their own homes or give as a special gift. 

Each new box will be made from recycled newsprint coated with a clay based product.  Vegetable based inks will be used for printing (no GMO's here!).  Our new boxes will be 100% recyclable and biodegradable.  

Going "green" also means leaving less of a carbon footprint.  Our box printer believes in efficient production which means puting the right box on the right machine in the right place.  They are not tied to using just one manufacturer, so they can take our box and make sure it is being run as locally as possible to reduce carbon emissions from freight.  They will also use machines set up for short runs (500-5,000 boxes) and medium runs (5,000-25,000). This helps keep costs down by lowering the amount of time, money, and energy it takes to print the new boxes.
