From June 6-9, 2012, ten of the world’s greatest performers on the marimba will teach and perform at the Santa Fe Marimba Festival.

The marimba is the heartbeat from ancient roots, calling out, beckoning to us with wood that sings.
It is said by some that the name Marimba is derived from a Zulu myth that speaks of a Goddess who made an instrument by hanging gourds underneath wooden bars. "Marimba" was her name.
The Santa Fe Marimba Festival,( santafemarimbafestival.org ) which will be held June 6-9, 2012 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a celebration of this ancient instrument from its roots in Africa, Mexico and Guatemala to classical and jazz marimba music. The Festival will feature eleven international marimba virtuosos:

Kevin Bobo - US

Guest artists Barry Olsen and Dane Richeson will accompany Valerie Naranja, Ivana Bilic, Gordon Stout and others.
Concerts will be held at two of Santa Fe's premier venues - the St. Francis Auditorium and The Lensic Performing Arts Center. There will be two free events: a kids and family workshop featuring local Zimbabwean marimbists Saturday morning on June 9th, followed by a concert. Featured local artists include Dan Pauli and Jaka, Peter Swing and Polyphony Marimba, Scott Ney, Steve Chavez, Angela Gabriel, Dave Tollen, Jeff Sussman, Ken Morehead, Mufari Marimba, Kumusha and the Elise Gent Dancers and Drummers.
Workshops will be held during the day at the Santa Fe School for the Arts, for visiting participants (mostly students and educators) who are coming in from around the US and Canada.
