About this project

Help develop great new plays by emerging playwrights with an award-winning New York theater ensemble!

Jessica Rothenberg (Becca) and Charley Layton (director, "leaving last night")

We are producing our third annual festival of new one-act plays. Every year, we accept submissions (at no fee) from around the world -- this year we read nearly 700 plays to choose our final 6 which are produced as a part of this festival, all of which are new to New York and five of which are world premieres.

Last year, two of our one-acts from Elephants on Parade were nominated for Best New Short Play at the New York Innovative Theater Awards (http://www.nyitawards.org), and one of them (Nico Vreeland's "The Interview") went on to win the award.

In addition to providing a playground for young and talented playwrights from around the world to develop their work, we're also dedicated to providing low-cost theater. In New York, where ticket prices often top $100 dollars, we offer $5 previews, $11 student rush tickets, and for this show no ticket costs more than $15. We believe theater should be accessible to everyone: both in its writing, its performance, and its cost. Your donation supports the next generation of theater artists and goes to a theater company with a proven track record of developing and presenting important new work!

Specifically, the $600 will cover our rehearsal rental costs. This is only a fraction of our full budget, but it's a very important part -- as an ensemble based company, most of our magic happens in the rehearsal room, exploring, pushing, and challenging each other and working with great directors and playwrights to develop and deepen their text. If we're able to raise more than this amount, it will help us to more fully realize the scenic, light, and costumes designs of the show and help to provide our artists with stipends.
