Shipping Details

Update #2 · Feb 3, 2011 · 11 comments

Hi folks,
Lots of questions about shipping, especially international shipping. Here are the details. It's simple, really:

All prices already include shipping costs.

  • If you're in the US, your items will be shipped 2 or 3 day priority mail.

  • If you're international, your items will be shipped First Class international through USPS, which has variable delivery times based on the destination.

For our international friends, I'll also be offering an option where you can expedite shipping by paying the cost of the service. In this instance, I'll ship through FedEx. If this is something you're interested in, I'll have a way to let me know when I collect information once the project closes.

Since the support for the project has been overwhelming (THANK YOU!), right now I need to figure out how to ship about a thousand books. (Incredible!) The plan right now is to assign each donor a pledge number, and to announce as things ship by pledge number. (ie, "Books for Pledges 1-100 have shipped.") I'll be working to set up a calendar for order fulfillment once writing and production is finished.

My goal is for my communication to be as open, transparent, and frequent as possible. Hopefully this answers any questions about shipping. But, if you have any more, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll be happy to answer.

Thanks!
Frank

@Daniel Good point. Now that I think of it I have both a .com and .ca account with Amazon, which is a little annoying.

@Chris Witham / @Jamie Apparently it's a flaw in the Amazon Payments system, that effects some people with pre-existing non-USA Amazon accounts. Kickstarter got in touch and said the work-around is set up a new, separate account which would then give me the option of a UK address. And it worked!

So I now have two Amazon accounts, which is a pain, but at least my pledge is now pledged :D

@Daniel, I'm in the UK and I've pledged on several projects with Amazon payments without any problems too.

@Daniel I'm in Canada and have used the Amazon.com payment system without any issues.

I really want to pledge, and it's great that you're doing what you can for international orders, but unfortunately Amazon Payments only allows US addresses :(

I second Mark's recommendation of Endicia for your initial batch, though I agree with Todd that you should look at fulfillment or a book distributor once you are done with the first round.

Where do I type in where it needs to be shipped?

Frank, I so appreciate your responding to people's inquiries about shipping, etc. but now, it is all about you formulating and articulating your thoughts. Enjoy the process. We all of course look forward to the results.

      Endicia for Mac + a Zebra LP 2844, I ship around 150 packages a month and it's a breeze.

      Frank,

Consider using a fulfillment house for the shipping.

The guys on the Glif project spoke very highly of Shipwire (http://www.shipwire.com/) and they shipped 7000 units in 24 hours.

Here is there write-up of the project:
