Hi all,

Things are moving very quickly for us at Breaking Surface.  We wish you could see our living room. Its a constant flow of creative, talented and inspiringly dedicated people helping put this show together.  Today we had Martina Feichtinger working on costumes and props with 2 of our interns Irina & Kathy, and also Julia working from afar.  Ana Constantina organizing the whirlwind via phone and email.  Chris Berlin building the giant book prop in a Brooklyn shop.  David Pakenham designing a custom made water-heating system from his house in New Paltz.  Full rehearsals with all of the cast & Trevor Exter, John Oyzon also working on music at our place and this!

Hi everyone,

We haven't been in touch in a few weeks, but that is because we have been extremely busy!

We have booked a theater!  

On March 4th we will be moving into the Theater for the New City on 1st ave, between 9th and 10th st.  for an extended rehearsal and development phase.  

March 19th through March 23rd performances!

This extended rehearsal period in the performance space is absolutely essential to developing a show as complicated as this one and it is possible because of you and your generous support!  We couldn't do it without you, so once again, thank you for helping to make this possible!

And, we know we said we were opening in February, but since we are now opening in March we hope you understand that we will need to extend our rewards due date to April.  We are really excited to send you all postcards, posters, tee-shirts and more but we can't do that while making the show.  We hope you understand! If you want to talk to us about anything please, please send us a message and we will get back to you right away.  You are VERY important to us.  We will send you your rewards as soon as we can.

We hope you will all come to see the show, it will mean so much to see your faces in the audience.  We also have had some incredible developments in the creative team the amazing Martina Feichtinger is creating our costumes and many gorgeous props for the show!  We are so lucky to have her, we really admire her art work. Also the incomparable Ana Constintino has joined us as project manager and is keeping our ship running smoothly towards opening night.  Thank you ladies!  We are so happy to be working with you!

What is the show about?

Breaking Surface is Flying-Dance-Theater over water. The show includes adventure, romance & plenty of humor. With imagery inspired by paintings and poetry we capture the moments in life we all relate to- adventure, frustration, love & mystery. With these images we weave together a physical story that evokes feelings both archetypal & personal. Pulling from our own relationships & personal stories we follow the lives of 2 individuals on their separate journeys through a complicated & unexpected world- where the laws of physics are not usually followed- until through self-discovery they eventually find each other.

How do I see the show?

Donate here, to the KickStarter! This fundraiser is to raise the funds we need to finish the show and rent a manhattan theater. We can’t wait to show it to you!

Do you have a theater yet?

No, that’s what this Fundraiser is about. We are talking with 4 manhattan theaters but need to raise the funds to book the theater. Our current dream theaters would be the Kitchen or BAC.

Our Story up til now:

In 2011 we did a 25 minute preview at the Brooklyn Lyceum. We had an over-whelming positive response from the audience and producers that saw the show. Several producers told us that they had buyers interested in purchasing the show but they needed to see the full show first. So, we got to work. Over the last year we have been creating in the studio with our amazing cast and built a full hour-long show. We still have more to do though and we need your help to get there!

2013 Goals

Right now our goal is to spend 3 weeks in the studio with our cast to do a final creative push and finish the show. We also need costumes and a few key set pieces. Then we are set to move into a NYC theater and present the show to several potentially interested buyers. From there we are aiming for either a National/International tour or a sit down run in Manhattan.
