About this project
Pretend Genius Press is the publisher of the Willesden Herald New Short Story series, currently in its 7th year. The best international and local stories in English each year vie for a place in our latest New Short Stories collection. Pretend Genius Press is a not for profit company registered in MD. We're asking you to help with the cost of publishing excellent new and rising talent and fiction from home and around the world that would otherwise hardly be available to readers. There are a lot of things we could do with a little extra money. We could increase our sponsorship of the now famous Willesden Herald short story competition. There are numerous other costs but everybody involved works on a voluntary or nominal basis. For example, judges of the competition receive a Willesden Herald mug. Previous judges have included Zadie Smith and Maggie Gee. This year we will be publishing New Short Stories 6 and our judge is Roddy Doyle. The money will be used to cover the cost of publishing the books more effectively and if possible to increase the number of free copies awarded to authors from the present two copies. The competition opens on Sept 1 and closes on Dec 16 with the book to be published in spring 2012. In return for helping nurture new talent and outstanding new fiction we would like to provide you with copies of books in our New Short Stories series. We are also looking to provide ebook versions. Thank you for reading. No really, thank you for reading.
