Harid, Rio de Janeiro and more
Dear backers,
Following our trip to St Petersburg in early September, we covered a photo shoot of Marcelo by photographer Kyle Froman, who regularly photographs the dancers of NYCB, among others. We then traveled with Marcelo down to Boca Raton, FL to the Harid Conservatory where he spent some of his formative years as a dancer. Marcelo and Olivier Pardina, his great teacher and mentor, reminisced about the past -- we even filmed in Marcelo's old dorm room!
Interviews this fall included those with ballerinas Veronika Part, Julie Kent and Polina Semionova. We also filmed a pas de deux class taught by Marcelo to some of the students of the JKO school which allowed us to delve deeper into understanding the complexities of partnering in ballet and the reasons why Marcelo is at the very top of the field.
Finally, we recently returned from a trip to Rio de Janeiro where we visited the very first after-school club where Marcelo first became involved in dance. We also interviewed Brazilian ballet icon Dalal Achcar as well as Silvana Andrade, one of Marcelo's first teachers and still a very close friend. Marcelo and his brother Haroldo visited their Uncle Wolf who was a seminal figure in their youth and played an important role in Marcelo's development as a young man.
