All banana bread recipes are not alike. The same can be said for their bakers. 

Several years ago, my daughter, Madison, formulated a super-tasty banana bread recipe and dubbed the resulting loaf “madibanani bread”. Since then, madibanani (mad-ee-ba-nan-ee) bread has satisfied many a taste bud and hungry belly.  This past February, Madi put her proprietary recipe to work and earned her way to Thailand to spend spring break caring for orphaned refugee children from Burma. How did she "earn her way"? With ambition, desire, perseverance and an oven-full of dough. Literally, dough. Madi baked and sold over 200 loaves of banana bread in less than one month to earn the “dough” that took her to Thailand!

Since that authentic, life-impacting experience in Thailand, Madi has decided to put herself and her madibanai bread to work again this summer. 

Here's a message from Madi about her summer plans:

Baking and selling banana bread (and having people come back to order more!) turned out to be quite a prosperous venture this past February. My goal for the summer is to sell over 600 loaves of bread, gain experience running a business, build awareness of the madibanani brand and share the results of my labor with anyone who wants to give madibanani bread a taste. Someday, I would like to use my bread and budding business skills in ways that address social issues, so I hope to learn a lot from this experience. (I have other ideas, but I'm starting with bread!) 

The Mission

Madi has written a business plan, secured the use of a contract kitchen, met with a food scientist and senior-level food marketers, researched the legal requirements for baking and selling her delicious bread, sourced ingredients at wholesale prices and assembled an advisory board of business professionals to help her navigate the ins and outs of baking something yummy and making it desired by others to enjoy. To get this far, she gladly cracked open her piggy bank, as have I. 

Now its time for Madi to buy her the inventory of ingredients, rent and use the contract kitchen (a necessary expense per the law - no more baking in Mama's kitchen!), procure her shipping supplies and finalize the website. Your contribution will make it possible for a driven, young lady to work, to learn and to exercise creativity all while satisfying hungry tummies and hearts across the U.S. (sorry, but because madibanani bread is baked fresh without preservatives, only domestic orders can be accommodated). 

I am excited to work along side Madi: mixing, baking, shipping and doing anything else she needs to support her summer project.
