About this project

We're making If You Love Someone, an independent psychological thriller, with your help. We need at least $26,000 to make this happen. The money must be delivered by noon on December 31st, 2011 here on Kickstarter. If we do not get the full amount of $26,000, Jillian dies — and so does our project. 

With If You Love Someone, we will create a real horror. Not a horror film in the modern sense of the slasher pic, but something truly horrific about life — about human cruelty and life’s indifference to our suffering.  If You Love Someone is a thriller about obsession, jealousy and cruelty. The film is written to be real. There are no ghosts or creatures, only the monstrous people born of their own obsessions and the horror they inflict in return.

Who is Jillian?

Jillian Gottlieb is a talented actress and singer/songwriter based in Manhattan. You'll see her as the Wirefaced Girl who appears in the opening scene of If You Love Someone. Before this movie, she appeared in various roles, including spots in the TV shows "Damages" and "The Colbert Report," and she was selected as a finalist on "America's Got Talent." She also writes songs for R&B, pop and hip-hop artists, in addition to performing in theaters around New York City and giving vocal lessons. So, you could say she's definitely worth saving.

What is If You Love Someone?

If You Love Someone is a psychological thriller with the suspense and cerebral undercurrents to make it a compelling watch.

The synopsis: Artist Julian Winslow made his name exploiting the milk-carton images of missing children that haunted everyone’s breakfast in the 1980s. His muse was Raye Fox, a 15-year-old beauty whose unsolved kidnapping and lost-girl gaze once transfixed America. Fifteen years later, a monstrous serial killer of young women is arrested. Raye Fox is not among the recovered victims and the killer will not talk, but Julian is convinced that he is the man who took her. With his career collapsing and his personal demons closing in, Julian’s obsession with Raye Fox is reignited. He buys the killer’s lonely, rural house at auction and moves there with his young, pregnant wife, determined to resurrect Raye and himself at the same time. Deep in the woods, far removed from the city and his glamorous world of art and ideas, what Julian finds about his lost muse — and himself — is a darkness of human horror.

Who are you guys?

Writer & Director — Andrew Cahill has been producing and editing for television and film for the past 10 years. His clients include CNN, ABC, Turner Broadcasting, Court TV and NBC. Andrew produced and edited the independent film, Brother, directed by Lisa Ebersole, in addition to producing the off-Broadway play, Mother, starring Buck Henry and Holland Taylor. He co-wrote If You Love Someone with his brother, Ed, and he’s ready to dig in and direct his first feature film.

Writer & Producer — Ed Cahill comes with 18 years of experience in  writing and editing, a strong background in publishing, and legal expertise. He wrote If You Love Someone with Andrew.

Director of Photography — Axel Baumann is an Emmy Award-winning cinematographer with 20 years of experience. He has shot five feature films as well as documentaries for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, The History Channel, The Sundance Channel, PBS and A&E. In 2005, Axel received his first Emmy nomination for Liberia: An Uncivil War. In 2008, Axel won an Emmy for Carrier, a 10-part series for PBS on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.

Associate Producer — Emily Watson is a screenwriter and producer with an encyclopedic knowledge of horror films. Besides ghost stories and independent filmmaking, Emily has a background in multimedia storytelling and strategy.

Makeup Artist — Adam Bailey is a full service make-up studio from design to application. Adam is responsible for the delightfully grotesque makeup for the Wirefaced Girl in the teaser trailer we made. If we could sum it up: his work is pretty freaking awesome.

Designer — Marissa Sher is the superdesigner charged with creating the look of If You Love Someone. She has over 3 years of experience designing websites, logos and print pieces. She's worked for creative firms like Top Shelf Design and Buyer Advertising. She loves a good, creepy movie.

Storyboard Artist — Olivia Infante is an all-around great artist. With a BFA in illustration, she has done a fantastic job on the storyboarding for If You Love Someone. Olivia has done previous work in student gallery shows, as well as teaching other artists. She also illustrated several books, including her own children's book.

Will you really kill Jillian?
