About this project

GLX 1973 is a senior thesis film, which went into preproduction in July 2011.  It is a dramatic representation of the events leading to the creation of Star Wars. The story focuses on a young George Lucas as he tries to land the movie deal to make the original Star Wars. As George struggles with getting his project off the ground, he explores his thoughts on whether or not a filmmaker can make a film as well as get the opportunity to experience it like his audience will.

Principle photography began in October 2011.  As of this time we have 12 scenes shot. In order to complete this project we have six more scenes to shoot and process for digital editing.  Of those six, we have very important scenes, two scenes set in Los Angeles, and another in front of a theater with vintage cars, and lastly one special effects sequence to be shot in front of a green screen.

On January 16, 2012 we released a teaser trailer for GLX 1973.

At this point GLX 1973 has been completely financed by the students involved in addition to costs accrued from simply attending school.  The film is being shot on 16mm, which is very costly and requires special processing to enable digital editing.  To date we have shot nine 400-foot rolls of Kodak Vision III. We have spent a considerable amount of money recreating 1973 through props and costumes, which were purchased online and at thrift stores in order to better guarantee an authentic feel to the time period.

While we have accomplished quite a bit on our own, our personal funds are beginning to dry up. We turn to your gracious donations to help pay for 16mm film, developing of the film, props, and location fees.  In addition, we need to send a cast and crew of four to Los Angeles in March to film two scenes.  Ideally we need $9,000.00 to complete this project, despite our set goal of $6,000.00.

Rewards

Some of the rewards are props from GLX 1973.  Props and DVDs will ship as soon as the production is complete.  In addition, the director has donated many items from his personal Star Wars collection to help fund this project.  These items will ship in April.  Below is a link to photos of the rewards.
