A witness for the Syrian civilians being killed only for demanding the freedom of speech, religion, and the right to assemble.
I will be returning to Syria. For the past 4 months I was a witness to crimes against humanity committed by the Syrian regime against innocent civilians. Their only crime was to demand the freedom of speech, religion, and the right to assemble. During those four months I was the only foreign journalist to document the massacre of Taftanaz and able to document the indiscriminate killings of children, women, innocent civilians including an artist and a journalist who was working for the media center in the Homs province.
What is compelling me to return to Syria is my journalistic duty to continue and document these crimes against humanity and the desire to give a voice to the heroes of the Syrian revolution. The heroes of this revolution are the people who despite the dangers continue fight for their freedoms by protecting the civilian population, the medical staff who work in the field hospitals despite the threats against them and their families, the civilians who continue to assemble and demand that the Assad regime must end, and the members of the local council who supply the population with much needed food and medicines.
My multimedia work brought global awareness to the suffering of the innocent civilians of Syria because news networks such as CNN, Al Jazeera, Paris Match, MSNBC, Time, New York Times and Stern magazine who have the courage to inform their readers and viewers in hopes that they may make informed and educated decisions.
Story line for the accompanying video.
As Syria descends into a potential all out war, followers of one of the oldest binding documents in history are now being labeled as terrorist or traitors against the Syrian regime and being hunted down by Assad supporters.
This field clinic services a population of around 40,000 people and is the only working hospital in the area since the State Hospital has been over taken by the Syrian Army and is currently a Syrian Army military base used for staging attack against the city population and as a snipers nests that over look the city.
These Doctors and medical staff fight a daily battle against death every day. When they are not saving saving the lives of the wounded or treating the sick they are bringing new life into the world to gleaming parents.
The medical staff must always be looking over their shoulder since they and their families are being directly target and hunted down by the Assad regime. Their crime as stated is honoring the medical Hippocratic Oath.
Yes I will be returning to Syria.
