Hi there! My name is Denise Cooper and I have the pleasure of birthing this amazing idea of a pop up cafe as a gift to my mom Gwendolyn Cooper for mother's day. The thing my mom loves more than anything is food. I hear stories all the time in my family about her skinny gangly twelve year old self sweating over the stove experimenting in her grandmother's (Mama to everyone who knew her) kitchen and serving her concoctions through the kitchen window to her cousins as they played outside.

WHAT IS A POP UP?

A pop-up restaurant is a temporary restaurant installation. It could be a try out for a more permanent restaurant, something more like a “food exhibit". Pop-ups give temporary homes to novel ideas and unique talent

WHICH BRINGS ME TO.....

Aakaa's House an 8 week (which is about as long as the summer lasts in Anchorage lol!)  cafe in downtown Anchorage that transports Southern Sea Island Gullah culture to the land of the Midnight Sun and incorporates and fuses traditional Native Alaskan foods with Low Country cuisine.

Decor incorporates basket weaving from the Native Alaskan and Native Sea Island tradition and instantly transports each visitor to those afternoon visits to granny's house.

The party starts July 5th 2011 and ends on September 5th 2011. The majority of ingredients used will be locally grown, raised, and cultivated

The Menu includes items such as:

Deviled crab made with Alaskan king crab

Salmon croquets with Alaskan wild salmon

Native fried bread with eggs and bacon

Grits with Reindeer sausage

Fish Pie

Your contribution would allow us to:

Rent an amazing space July 1st to September 5th ($6000)

Pay for licenses, filing fee's, and permits ($1000)

Pay for the amazing food ingredients ($3500)

Decorate the place and make it feel just like granny's house ($500)

Pay our accountant and bookkeeper($1600)

Pay our amazing staff ($16,000)

Pay for office equiment and supplies ($1000)

5% Kickstarter fee: depends on total

I can tell you right now that my mom makes food that makes you fall in love. Every ounce of her talent and creativity goes into her creations. I can't wait for the party to start and you'll are all invited!
