CYBT needs your help to refurbish old costumes and props, and create new ones for their 7th annual Nutcracker.
Auditions are complete, rehearsals are just beginning, and the excitement of our young dancers and parents is overflowing. Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre is preparing for their 7th annual performance of The Nutcracker Ballet.
As we bring out old costumes for fittings and props for a facelift we can quickly see just how much there is to be done. We need funds to bring life to some of our oldest costumes, repairs to old props, and to create our most anticipated new prop for this years production. This will be our first year in asking the community to nominate a local hero to join other local television personalities to be cast in the beloved role of Mother Ginger. But we need funds to build the coveted 8ft tall elevated platform of Mother Ginger and her elaborate costume.
We are so thankful for the immense talent and dedication of our Artistic Director and teaching staff, the hard work and beautiful dancing of our young dancers, and for the many dance families and community volunteers who continuously support us.
We hope that we have made you smile with our video. There are tremendous expenses involved in creating a professionally staged production for our young dancers and community. Any amount pledged is appreciated and brings us one step closer to our goal.
Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre presents the Nutcracker Dec. 7-9 at the Myrtle Beach Community Church Auditorium. For ticket information call 843-651-2006 or visit us at www.coastalyouthballettheatre.org.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Risk: We need to sell out each of our three performances to pay for production cost such as theater rental, backdrop rental, the materials to build the Mother Ginger prop, costume repair and refurbishment, fees for a professional guest artist and our artistic and administrative staff. The artistic director has never been paid in the seven years we have done the production; it is truly a labor of love for her students.
Risk: To generate the interest of a larger audience this year we asked the community to nominate and vote for a local community hero or celebrity to be cast in the role of Mother Ginger. In doing so, we have also lined up three performances to allow interested attendees to have options as to their preferred dates. We risk not having a full audience each show but it is our goal to drum up interest so that we can get as much theater seats filled up so that our young dancers can feel invigorated and share their love of dancing, and all the hard work they have put in worth their while.
Risk: We need to also sell out our student matinee for our schools. The revenue from this performance helps with the overall cost of the production.
Challenge: This year we have had less exposure time to promote the performance in the community. We were not able to hold The Nutcracker Fair, which is one of our annual fundraisers for the company, thus we have to come up with advertising both paid and as public service provided by media groups. Additional funding for the advertising of the performances has added to the budget cost for our production.
Challenge: We are challenged each year by being the only ballet performing company in our area. We have learned that for some of our audience members it is often their first introduction to a classical ballet performance. We realize this makes our company work harder and push for more support to get our mission-vision fulfilled.
There are many risk and challenges to a production of professional scale, but we are blessed by our wonderful parent volunteers who have stepped up to mend costumes, begin construction of the Mother Ginger prop, participate in fundraisers, and promote the performance. Our volunteers make it possible to create this magical and life changing experience for our young dancers.
So we are reaching out with the help of Kickstarter beyond our parents and families for support. Please help us with your pledge great or small and by sharing our campaign with others so we are able to share with our community the beauty of ballet.
We sincerely thank you!
