About this project
We are raising money to spread the love (on the run) in a highly illustrated and inspiring how-to manual that will enable other communities to hold their own FREE Love on the Run in Februaries to come! This event is, and always has been, a free event focused on giving love back to the local community. During the event, participants attend an open house where they compose original love notes on antique typewriters. Each note is left with a recipient's address and hand-delivered by our volunteers free of charge on Valentine's day. This year will be our 5th year of hosting Love on the Run, and our goal is to trademark the event for use in other cities regionally and even nationwide. The purpose of trademarking the event is to protect the charm and simplicity of Love on the Run and keep it free for the communities that participate.
Inspired by an interactive art piece, The first Love on the Run event was hosted in February of 2008 with a mere 5 typewriters and just over 90 love notes delivered. Even in its inaugural year, Love on the Run was more than inspiring to participants. The satisfying feel of old keys and off-kilter click clack did more than just punch out words on a page. Each bottle contained thoughts and feelings, special and sincere, touching the hearts and imaginations of everyone involved in their creation.
Since then, each year has shown more growth, community involvement, and of course love. Last year, at our 4th annual event, over 350 bottles were were hand-delivered. The open house lasted 3 days, each day complete with music, poetry, photos, and treats made possible by 11 local business sponsors. Volunteer efforts included help assembling bags for bottle delivery, help with temperamental typewriters, organization of delivery teams, and of course the delivery of the notes themselves. Over 40 volunteers gave their time to help folks giving love.
This year in Lincoln, Nebraska, we'll have 500 bottles ready for our local community plus any additional love notes that we may get the honor of sending on behalf of supporters like you. When this Kickstarter campaign reaches its goal, we'll have the funds that we need to create a how-to manual that will draw from our years of experience with this event. This manual will include everything from tips on locating and servicing typewriters that are almost 100 years old, to ideas on organizing delivery of each and every note in your community. The trademarking will help us ensure that the Love on the Run event and the ideas and values that it was created from will be upheld no matter how many cities participate.
Now- just imagine all of that momentum, energy, and love in your city. What would your love note say?

FAQ
-
Of course someone can throw a similar event, we can not stop that. We want to ensure that when someone uses the name Love on the Run that their event will remain FREE to the community.
-
Yes it will! We will send the exact same Valentine to whom ever you choose.
-
Yes we will. We will provide a media kit that will include the logo for web and print, a guidelines pamphlet as well as brochures and media material for you to drop in your name. We will also provide answers and suggestions as to where to get typewriters, how to service them, best way to make sure the bottles get delivered (this year we will be delivering 500, how does that happen in one day?) and much more. We want to make this a easy as possible for other stores to take the idea and run with it.

here at porridge papers the sky is the limit! on any given day you can find us cranking out sheet after sheet of handmade paper goodness. our mill consists of a variety of crazy contraptions that have been custom-built to our specifications. from start to finish our equipment suits us perfectly. gretta, our blender, turns recycled fibers into pulp for the first step in paper reincarnation. from there our artisan papermakers form each sheet by hand with love, for that extra touch. next we give the sheets a good squeeze with 20 tons of hydraulic pressure- twice. enter our drying rooms and you’ll find yourself surrounded by towering fans and other apparatuses. you won’t know whether you’re in a papermill or training for space camp. after the sheets are dried they’re peeled, trimmed, letterpress, offset, or screen printed, die cut, scored, perforated, punched, embossed, debossed, folded, bound, embellished, glued, wrapped, packaged, boxed, shipped, delivered, unwrapped, touched, smelled, adored, and maybe even planted, grown and enjoyed all over again in its new plant form. as far as paper goes, the whole experience is nothing short of enlightening.
