Medusa is a graphic novel about three jellyfish who explore the perils of underwater living.
New funding goal!!
Please continue to share our project until our deadline on Wednesday. Our goal consisted of the barest bones budget we could come up with to still produce a beautiful, hardbound graphic novel. Anything extra will give us a bit of wiggle room in case of unexpected wrinkles in our plans. However, if we can reach 9000$, we will announce a secret side project that we didn't initially put into the budget. As we get closer, we'll give more details! Until then, please know that we feel so fortunate and grateful to have reached our goal with time to spare!
Medusa is a graphic novel that tells the story of Egg Yolk, a curious jellyfish who wonders where his fish and crab friends go when they get lifted out of the water by a net. The story of Egg Yolk and his friends Turrit and Medusa is fictitious, but the narrative is intertwined with interludes that explain scientific concepts such as blooms and marine-life hitchhikers. These interludes are placed strategically throughout the story, so that questions are answered as soon as they might arise in the reader's mind.
We started working on this book during the summer of 2009, while we both were living in Seattle. A few months later, Milissa moved to New Orleans and we learned how to work creatively long-distance. We spent a year sending a mock-up back and forth in the mail, simultaneously trying to slow the demise of the U.S. postal system. Editing and re-editing took place over email, photographed attachments and long conversations on the phone. We are so excited to finally be ready to share our book with all of you!
If our project gets funded, we will use the money to:
- be in the same city for a week to finish and finalize all details.
- get professional help to tweak the layout.
- print and self-publish Medusa.
- create and send out all our wonderful rewards
