America is a civilized, full functioning world power with her lands populated by hundreds of millions of citizens intent on enjoying her freedoms and comforts. With towns growing into cities, and cities massing in size, the wilderness seems far out of place and out of reach. The days of explorers, pioneers, travelers and an open frontier are thought to be lost except in movies. A short drive from state to state gives the appearance that these places are small and few, with scarce wonders barely hidden away. The beauty is still there.
As Americans, we have fought hard for the heritage of our beautiful and clean land. The largest wilderness areas available to us are along 3 trails: The Appalachian Trail (2,184mi), the Pacific Crest Trail (2,663mi), and the Continental Divide Trail (3,100mi), together they are the Triple Crown hiking trails. These 3 trails cross through 22 states and each trail demands roughly 5-7 months to complete via hiking. The common factors to these trails are thousands of miles of American wilderness, making available further discoveries, research projects, and more exploration.
Matt Liparulo will be hiking the Triple Crown trails and will share a daily photographic journal so everyone can experience and appreciate America's shrinking wilderness areas. Matt also hopes that this journal will encourage others to venture into our wilderness areas, and will use this resource to guide them into the vast beauty in our own backyard. He will be observing the magnificent nature of our home by camping on the side of the trails and the land around them, where permitted. Matt’s intentions are to express the importance of keeping city sizes limited and keep them from encroaching on our wilderness lands by showing the thriving nature that lives in these places and what we may lose. His book will illustrate the hiking trip from beginning to end including all 3 trails and their most spectacular points of beauty and interest.
Please consider supporting this project. Your financial help for the Triple Crown Wilderness Photo Journal will provide food, replacing worn camping gear throughout the 7,300 mile hike, and travel costs in between each trail head. To contribute, click the "Backer" button at the top of this page, above the "Rewards" column.
The Rewards as a backer depend on how much you would like to contribute. The rewards can include "Thank you" emails, updates along the trails, pictures taken from the trail sent via email, a print of the photograph of your choice as a 4x6 or 8x10. Also included will be a letter from Matt about his time on the trail and making of the project, and a signed copy of the photography book about the trails and wilderness of the Triple Crown experience.
For every dollar pledged to the project, Matt has promised to pick up 1lb of trash littered on the trails. This is part of an effort to leave-no-trace and support the hundreds of volunteers that maintain the trails.
Please keep in mind that the funding amount Matt is asking for must reach 100% or he will not receive any of it and the money will be returned to those who showed support. If Matt reaches his goal before the allotted time frame, additional funding will be gratefully appreciated and can go a long way towards his final goal. If you would like to contact Matt or learn more about him and the project, please see the links below. Thank you!
