Update #6: We Did It, Thanks to You!

Posted on May 17, 2011
Hey Everyone,

Well...we did it! With just over 48 hours left to go, we've reached our Kickstarter goal! Thank you all so much; I can't begin to express how excited I am. To thank you in the most direct and personal way I can right now, I've recorded a video from my garden expressing my gratitude - feel free to watch below. While I can't wait for everyone to experience the finished product, I'm also really looking forward to a first step: sharing the recording sessions with everyone who will be joining us for the LiveStreaming. Of course, if you're still interested in joining us, there's time until Thursday to do so!

Things are going so well in the studio right now. Tobias and I work so well together, and have finished everything that he calls "bread and butter." This week, we've been working a lot on horns with Tim Green (sax) stopping by, along with Tim Laughlin (clarinet), Kirk Joseph (sousaphone), and Rick Trolsen (trombone).

Another exciting bit of news I'd like to share with you is a concert I did recently for Liveset.com. It's online now and available to purchase. I performed the show solo in the beautiful Martine Chaisson Gallery in downtown New Orleans. The folks at Liveset have also made full versions of "Oh Mary" and "Blue Skies," along with an interview shot in my home available to view. You can check it out HERE

Again, thank you for all of your support! It truly means the world. The campaign officially ends on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00pm EST. Please share with your friends in Tweets, on Facebook, in email or just over the phone. See you soon in the studio!

Hugs,

- Theresa

Update #5: 6 Days (and just under $1,000) to go!

Posted on May 13, 2011
Hi, all. Amazing that we're only 6 days from wrapping up the Kickstarter campaign, and 9 days away from starting the recording sessions on May 23rd. I continue to be immensely honored by and grateful for your support and participation. But of course, there's still work to be done before we begin our live streaming sessions.

This week we got to the point of finishing what Tobias calls the 'bread and butter stuff'. I put down a bunch of violin, back up singing, percussion, keyboard sketches and guitar & bass. We've also started our work with the horn players, as many of the guys needed a couple of days rest after the intense demands of Jazz Fest. We're really just getting started this weekend with Tim Green (saxes), Tim Laughlin (clarinet), Kirk Joseph (sousaphone), and Rick Trolsen (trombone). In more personal news, last night I went to a live concert with one of my absolute favorite Swedish artists, José González, and his band Junip. Awesome show and a major inspiration! But I must make a note to myself to stop wearing high heels, even if it looks good. 'Ouch' is the word for today. :)

In closing, I have to mention that while I'm ecstatic and immensely grateful that we've made it this far so quickly, we still need just about $2,000 in order to complete the campaign and make this all happen. We've got 7 days to reach the full $15,000 goal by Thursday, May 19th. So I need to ask now more than when we started for your help in sharing & spreading the word about this project, to ensure we can make it happen. Will you please post, send, share, Facebook, Tweet, e-mail, or otherwise talk it up one last time?

Have a beautiful weekend wherever you may be, and talk to you next week,

 - Theresa

You made it, congrats! I so prefer giving you the money directly than going through "the machine" - just like your DIY, 'create and loop in all live', 'make it in your house' creative music magic.

Update #4: Jazz Fest, horn players & less than a fourth to go!

Posted on May 10, 2011
Hi, all! So I'm still on a bit of an energy 'high' after playing my only live show this year at last week's iconic Jazz Fest here in New Orleans. Having the opportunity to perform with the New Orleans All-Stars -  Johnny Vidacovich, George Porter, Ivan Neville, Tony Hall, and Papa Mali - was an honor. Their mastery over various instruments is also something that proved to be particularly inspiring going into this new record.

Speaking of instruments - I mentioned last week that legendary New Orleans saxophonist Tim Green will be joining me this week in the studio to prep for the recording sessions. Needless to say, that's taking up a lot of my time this week.

Lastly, a big thank you (a million times over) for your continued support in raising funds for my new record. While we're just over 75% of the way 'there', the project still needs to reach its full $15,000 goal by Thursday, May 19th (9 days from now!). So I still need to ask your help in sharing & spreading the word about this project, to ensure we can make it happen. Will you please post, send, share, Facebook, Tweet, e-mail, or otherwise talk it up?

Talk to you soon,

 - Theresa

Update #3: Update #3: We're (a little over) Halfway There!

Posted on May 6, 2011

I hope this update finds you all ready to enjoy a weekend of what hopefully feels like Spring, wherever you may be. This week has been productive and energizing - I'm really excited how the process leading up to the recording has been going so far. My husband Arthur is creating a beautiful rhythmical world. Tobias is producing the sound so you really feel like you're in the street - trash cans and all! Next week, legendary New Orleans saxophonist Tim Green will be joining me.

At the expense of repeating myself, thank you (a million times over) for your continued support in raising funds for my new record. While we're about 60% of the way 'there', the project still needs to reach its full $15,000 goal by Thursday, May 19th (a little less than two weeks from now). So I still need to ask your help in sharing & spreading the word about this project, to ensure we can make it happen. Will you please post, send, share, Facebook, Tweet, e-mail, or otherwise talk it up?

Until next time, have a lovely weekend.

 - Theresa

Melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre; these are the traditional building blocks of pop music. Yet although you will find them in abundance on Hummingbird, Go! (her last album), Theresa Andersson hardly sounds like conventional pop. That's because the New Orleans singer-songwriter chose to approach her craft from different perspectives before she even began composing. "I stopped thinking in terms of traditional songwriting," Andersson explains. "I worked on shapes, forms, and textures, scents and colors. Elements which are more earthy and organic inspired me." She would walk along the Mississippi River, or relax in her garden. As ideas emerged, she caught them in her butterfly net – or rather, on her laptop – and let them converge, then blossom.
