About this project
I want to release a limited edition DVD of my new film, Meanwhile. You can pre-buy this DVD by pledging $25 or more, or even just $10 for the CD, or both for $35, and so on. There are other fun rewards for pledging more and they're best explained over there on the right hand side of this page.
Many of you have written in the past months asking about Meanwhile. Thanks for your interest and patience.
It's like this: though I set out to make a one-hour featurette, like my earlier films Surviving Desire (1992) or The Book of Life (1998), by the time I was done I thought I ought to present it as the pilot for a mini-series. Everyone seemed to think this was a great idea (television being the future of filmmaking and all...) and I had some genuine interest from television companies.
However, finally, it seems Meanwhile (the series) just isn't what the television industry requires at the moment. But I'm very proud of this one hour film and I'm certain that people who follow what I do will dig it. My friend and collaborator of many years, DJ Mendel, gives an outstanding performance as Joe Fulton—the hardest working unsuccessful over-achiever in New York.
This will be in both North American and overseas formats. So wherever you are, we'll have a DVD for you!

Meanwhile concerns Joe Fulton, a man who can do anything from fixing your sink to arranging international financing for a construction project. He produces online advertising and he's written a big fat novel. He's also a pretty good drummer. But success eludes him.
For Joe can't keep himself from fixing other people's problems. His own ambitions are constantly interrupted by his willingness and ability to go out of his way for others.
The film is shot and edited. We are raising money to complete the audio mix and to prepare the various materials needed for commercial exploitation, which includes the design, authoring, and manufacturing of a limited edition DVD and CD of the original music.

I'm 51 years old and have written, produced, and directed 12 feature films since 1990, all of which have been distributed internationally. (You can learn about those at www.possiblefilms.com). I've won awards at the international film festivals in Cannes (Henry Fool, 1998), Tokyo (Amateur, 1994), and Sundance (Trust, 1991). I have also staged theater and opera. I taught filmmaking at Harvard University for three years (2001 - 2004). In 1996 I was made a Chevalier of arts and letters of the Republic of France and was awarded a fellowship at the American Academy in Berlin in 2004. Since 1990 I have run my company, Possible Films.
