Bronies Documentary to Appear on US Television!

Update #30 · May 17, 2013 · 6 comments

We have some really big news to announce regarding the Bronies documentary. The US television rights have been acquired and a "cut for television" version of the film will be running on cable and streaming online for free this fall.

The US Cable channel Logo has acquired rights to run the program as part of their documentary series "WHAT!?"

Although Logo started as a network focusing on a gay audience, it has evolved into inclusive programing that also attracts a straight audience that wants to be ahead of the curve. The Brony message of love and tolerance is particularly in tune with this audience and we are excited to be working with Logo to allow the public a chance to see the film.

We are still working on the new "Bronies - The Unreleased Tapes" project to cut together and release segments not included in the original film. There are 16 days left for the fundraising. If you want to check it out go to: http://igg.me/at/bronies/x/1639096

DVD and Blu-Ray disc copies of the feature length documentary and extended interviews are available at bronydoc.com and on amazon.com

For those of you who are waiting, we expect the feature length documentary to be on iTunes and Amazon Instant Video for purchase and rental in the next month.

Best,

Mike

Bronies - The Unreleased Tapes

Update #29 · Apr 19, 2013 · 16 comments

Last year we held a crowdsource funding drive to create a documentary which we named “Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony.” We are grateful for the tremendous support from thousands of people that helped us make that feature length film possible. The result has been praised and enjoyed by both Bronies and by the general public.

The film contained stories and material culled from over 200 hours of footage shot around the world. Part of the difficulty in making a film is selecting just the right amount of material to include. You want to include enough to keep people entertained and satisfied. Too much and you run the risk of losing your audience.

As with most productions, as part of the process, we shot some great stuff that was not included in the final film. Some of it didn’t quite fit the theme of the film in which we were mostly trying to introduce the general public to the phenomena of the Brony fandom and why it exists.

People have been asking us to release the additional material. That’s what this project is all about. We want to edit this material into segments and release it for all to see.

The Process

The good news is that the material has already been shot. The first funding drive helped pay for the professional crews and producers to travel and capture it. Now it sits on hard drives in a raw state.

We need to pay the people to do the real work of editing and administering the production process. Funds will also go towards perks and postage. Any extra funds will go towards our continuing efforts to promote the feature film which includes entering and attending film festivals, sending out press review copies, etc.

Once finished, the material will be released under a pay-what-you-want model online so that anyone who wants to see it can, at whatever price they can afford. We’ll also sell DVD’s for those who prefer a hard copy.

The Stories

How much material we can release will depend on the total funds raised, but we would like to include the following:

• Segment about the fire at BronyCon. We captured the fire itself and the crowds having a great time outside singing and bonding as the fire department works.

• Extended segment on “Sethisto” and the team from Equestria Daily covering BronyCon.

• Segment on Convention Chair Andrew Brockert, including pre-BronyCon madness and his car accident on the way to BronyCon.

• Extended interviews with Military Bronies.

• Segment about a couple honeymooning at BronyCon.

• Segment on Megan Youmans and the Traveling Pony Museum

• Segment about a Malaysian Brony who makes a trip to America.

• Segment on the Pirate Party in Germany who uses episodes of MLP in “Pony Time” time-outs to cool down heated political meetings.

• Segment on a gay couple that attends B.U.C.K. and find acceptance in the fandom.

• Extended segment on the BronyCon Cosplay Contest.

• Segment on a young man who meets and gets career advice from Lauren Faust.

• Segment on a woman who came to meet Lauren Faust, her former childhood babysitter, at BronyCon. Lauren often drew pony pictures for her.

• Segment on a family of Bronies (Father, Mother and Teen).

• Extended segment on artist John Joseco.

• Segment on Tara Strong at San Diego's ComicCon.

Thank you for your support. Your help will make this release possible.

Bronies Documentary to be featured at the Kansas City FilmFest

Update #28 · Mar 10, 2013 · 9 comments

We are extremely pleased to announce that the Bronies documentary will be featured at the Kansas City FilmFest on April 11 & 13. This is a monumental step forwards towards spreading the word about the film and what the Brony community is about.

In addition to the screenings, there will be Q&A's with producers John de Lancie, Lauren Faust and Michael Brockhoff as well as VIP events.

More information will be posted at: http://www.meetup.com/Midwest-Bronies/ and tickets will be available soon at http://drafthouse.com/kansas_city/mainstreet

When we started this project, back in May of 2012, we designed the film with a vision in mind. While we could see the joy and love contained within the Brony fandom, some in this world could not. The documentary was a project designed to act as a safe, well meaning introduction to the fandom for those who had not yet heard of it, in order to show the world what this community could do, and give them an inside look at what goes on within. We feel the film accomplished this goal admirably, and our screening at the Kansas City FilmFest only reinforces that, and helps further these goals. We hope for many more opportunities like this in the future, so that we can help the public understand the fandom better.

Bronies are amazing, and the world agrees. We are just helping to show them why. Thank you all for your incredible support. Without you, none of this would be possible.

We look forward to meeting midwest Bronies and screening the film with a mixed Brony and general public crowd.

Best,

Mike & the Bronies Team

Bronies Documentary joins Las Pegasus Relief

Update #26 · Feb 28, 2013 · 12 comments

As you undoubtedly have heard, events at the Las Pegasus convention left people who can least afford it out-of-pocket.

In the spirt of friendship, we at the Bronies documentary want to give back to the community who have so graciously supported our project.

We are offering 50 autographed copies of the documentary for $100 each. They can be obtained at bronydoc.com. We will cover the cost of shipping and Paypal fees so that 100% of the proceeds, $5,000 total, can be distributed, with guidance from the Las Pegasus Relief League, to those needing help.

This money does not go towards the convention or voice actors. It goes directly to the community members who need it the most.

For those of you waiting for discs, as you can see from the picture posted, the covers are printed. They have been signed by Lauren, Tara and John and sent back to the replicator to be packaged with the discs and shrink wrapped. We anticipate shipping next week on March 7th.

Thank you for sharing the friendship and allowing us to do the same.

Mike Brockhoff, John de Lancie & The Bronies Team
