People hang out with me in a series of podcasts on the web. Your ears/brain hang out with our words. Hence, "Hang Out With Me." Enjoy!
Hang out with me! That's what you can do as part of my new project, "Hang Out With Me!" It's a podcast/webseries*... because what is a podcast but a series of hang-outs recorded and purveyed on the web. A series of web things. You get it. Or do you? You do. I have faith in you. Humanity! With robothood! Working together, not destroying one another! Hopefully!
But why do I want to make a podcast? Well, after surveying the internet landscape, I noticed that none of the podcasts that exist already were mine (though I've had wonderful times hanging out on the podcasts of others), and it seemed that there was room for one more podcast (thanks, internet!). And here it comes, hopefully!
So, I want to raise one dollar in order to make this happen. Why only a dollar? Aren't podcasts more expensive than that? Shouldn't they be? Great questions, hypothetical questioners! Well, that one dollar will indicate that there's interest from at least one person to hang out with me, which is all I need. And if we raise more than the one dollar, that money will certainly come in handy to put towards all the other podcast costs (podcosts?), which I presume exist.
The point is, if you care about any of this (which I presume you must, at least a little, because you're still reading, so thanks!), and you want to be a part of said things, join in! With your money if you have some! And you can be a part of "Hang Out With Me"! At least your name can! Or even your voice! I almost said your face, but not quite. I mean, we can take a picture and put it on our site, if you've donated the requisite amount to get into our studios, or the $10,000 necessary for us to come record at your home (in the continental US... it's expensive to get to Hawaii... but maybe we'll go there also... we'll see).
You get the idea. Now, take it, spread it, run with it, and make it everyone's idea! Tell everyone to come hang out with me on "Hang Out With Me"!
...
* You might notice that the category of this project is "web series," because Kickstarter has no separate podcast category. If need be, we will use the initial dollar to purchase a stamped envelope (or separately, a stamp and an envelope), into which will be placed a letter to Kickstarter, to inquire and make sure that their definition of webseries includes podcasts (which I presume it should, having logically deduced it above). And if it doesn't, it will ask why. And also why podcasts aren't included as a category of thing that Kickstarter will fund, specifically. Why must there be visual AND audio? Why the sense-bigotry? But for now, since they've accepted this project, we'll just agree to agree. Thanks for spending so much of your life reading this! I hope you hang out with me more!
FAQ
-
There will definitely be at least one. And if people ask other questions, then there may indeed be more!
-
That is difficult to answer. Is this one a joke question, or is it serious? Does there have to be a strict joke/serious dichotomy? Sincerely, it all depends on you. And me. Or whoever is determining the definition of "joke" and "serious." Seriously.
-
Not anymore! People are asking real questions about things that aren't just the FAQ section. It's pretty exciting.
-
Great questions. The answers are yes and I'm not sure. Depends on how you pronounce "FAQ." Is it letters or a word? Or both? Like the wave-particle duality of nature. The letters-word duality of abbreviations that have become their own words. It's a zen-like mystery. Come up with your own answer if you like. (So not only can you ASK an FAQ, you can also ANSWER one.)
-
There is a 100% chance of that. Take a look at the new options just added! Thanks for asking. Hope it's the answer you wanted.

Currently, the plan is to feature guests. Part of what I love about doing podcasts is hanging out with people. Hence, I invite a couple people to hang out with me, and then I invite the internet to hang out with that hangout.
-
I will be engaged in conversations that are not scripted, though some topics may be thought of in advance (apparently, the answer to this question was not thought of in advance), so I would say it will be considerably closer to talking off the top of my head. And the heads of my guests. Or maybe further down, like the middle of our heads. The heart of our heads. We'll see. (With the eyes of our heads. Or more likely, the ears of our heads.)
-
The plan is to start weekly, at least. Then, depending on factors like demand and/or supply, that may increase.
-
Yes and no.
-
I do not know at this time. So far, there are no sponsors except for in my imagination (which is pretty powerful), so we'll see. Good question!
-
Can't it be neither? I don't have an iphone so it won't be that. And I don't have a big studio so it won't be that. So, it will be somewhere in between, like in a studio that is smaller than a big one but bigger than a phone.
-
Well, some of them were real questions written by real people who wanted to know real things. Thus, the answer to "what gives" is "Me. I am the thing that gives... the answers to those questions." Hope you enjoyed this one, which is partly serious with a side of snarky.
-
Great question. It's one that I've asked myself many, many, many times (or in other words, very very very frequently). I would answer that a question's ask-frequency is relative, such that every question ever asked by a human (or non-human) could be seen as infrequent, in the grand scheme of the universe, which is filled for the most part with dark matter (which, as far as we know, doesn't ask any questions). But compared to questions that are never asked at ALL, questions with NO ask-frequency, the questions that ARE asked, even once, have a positive ask-frequency, and thus qualify as a (relatively) FAQ. PS I don't know if I ever even said that FAQ stands for "frequently asked questions" (though that's a fair assumption... Fair Assumption Questions?), so there's wiggle room there as well.

It is most likely NOT going to be all about tennis. Tennis may come up, for sure. It is not an anti-tennis podcast. I like playing tennis, table- or otherwise. (And thank you for the freedom to include this question here.)
-
That is a good question. Having not recorded all of the podcasts I will ever do yet, I cannot say with certainty. However, it is my goal to have this be a podcast for the ages, such that people of any time in the future can listen back to episodes and enjoy them without the need for a farmer's almanac or history atlas or other such things, you understand. I'm sure current events may come up, but it will not be the focus. (We will mostly cover only past and future events. World history and Terminator movies.)
-
I believe the podcast will be like me, so if you find me funny, so will you find the podcast. And if you do not find me funny, then I appreciate your taking the time to read this FAQ all the way down to here, unless you started at the bottom in which case, I applaud your non-conventional methodology.

I would love to have Bill Burr on my podcast. I'll do what I can, but it will most likely be up to him.
Also, I LOVE red hair. So if I hold ANYTHING against balding gingers, it's that I'm sad that they're losing their awesome red hair. Stop balding, gingers!

23 backers Limited (2147483624 of 2147483647 left)
If you donate one dollar, you will receive a thank you. This thank you will be delivered in spirit, or possibly in email, or even more possibly via Kickstarter message directly from comedian Myq Kaplan's Kickstarter account, curated by the aforementioned Myq Kaplan, who has typed these very words to assure their validity and authenticity. (Thank you for reading them... that's an advance on your future thank you.)
Estimated delivery: Dec 2012Pledge $5 or more
7 backers Limited (193 of 200 left)
If you donate $5, you may submit a word to be incorporated into an episode of the podcast. You will receive the satisfaction of having made a notable change in the world, at least with respect to this podcast. PS If you donate to one of the higher levels, you may exercise this option as well if you choose. (This new reward was suggested in a comment by a backer, and seemed like a fine idea. So here it is.)
Estimated delivery: Jun 2013Pledge $10 or more
32 backers Limited (2147483615 of 2147483647 left)
If you donate ten dollars, you will receive a thank you on an episode of "Hang Out With Me." If you want. Your name will be pronounced as correctly (or as incorrectly) as possible, and so will the words "thank you" or "thanks" or "word" or some other variation thereof.
Estimated delivery: Jan 2013Pledge $25 or more
7 backers Limited (93 of 100 left)
If you donate $25, Myq Kaplan (the comedian, podcaster, and person responsible for these words being typed into your face right now) will make a Youtube video (let's say around a minute long) dedicated specifically to thanking you for that $25 or more. PS You will also get the on-air shout-out of the $10 reward, if you desire it.
Estimated delivery: Dec 2012Pledge $50 or more
1 backer Limited (49 of 50 left)
If you donate $50, Myq Kaplan (the human being, robot-seeming, and person beaming these words into your brain right now) will make an even LONGER Youtube video than the $25 people get (let's say around three minute long, triple the time for only double the money) dedicated specifically to thanking you for that $50 or more. PS You will also get the on-air shout-out of the $10 reward, if you desire it.
Estimated delivery: Nov 2012Pledge $75 or more
1 backer Limited (4 of 5 left)
If you donate $75, you can have an individualized 16-bar rap song created specifically for you, based on your name (or whatever, if you're in witness protection maybe), by comedian/rapper extraordinaire Zach Sherwin AKA MC Mr. Napkins (whose work you can see at www.mrnapkins.com). Zach is a friend and musical contributor to the show, currently working on what will be the theme song. Sound good? If you get one of these, it WILL sound good.

If you donate ninety-nine dollars, you may come into the building where our studio is located while we record an episode of "Hang Out With Me." You will be able to listen through the door and receive a thank you on air, and you can yell a response that maybe will get picked up by the microphones. Conversely, for one more dollar (see $100 reward), you may enter the room and talk into a microphone.
Estimated delivery: Jun 2013Pledge $100 or more
2 backers Limited (98 of 100 left)
If you donate one-hundred dollars, you may come into the studio while we record an episode of "Hang Out With Me" and be thanked in person as part of an episode. You have to get to the studio on your own, though. I mean, we'll tell you where it is. It's not like a math puzzle or a treasure hunt with a pirate map. Or maybe it is, but way easier. We'll tell you what X equals.
Estimated delivery: Jun 2013Pledge $1,000 or more
0 backers Limited (50 of 50 left)
If you donate one-thousand dollars, you may come into our studios to be a guest on "Hang Out With Me" for the entirety of one episode, during which you may be thanked (or not, you get to decide). We reserve the right to edit the conversation, but mostly for things like if you yelled racial epithets the whole time, in which case your thousand dollars will have been very helpful in the overtime costs for our editor. (We also reserve the right to determine what things are similar to racial epithets, conceptually. We also reserve the right to reserve other rights, like a genie granting wishes for more wishes. To ourselves. Genie's prerogative.)
Estimated delivery: Jun 2013Pledge $10,000 or more
0 backers Limited (25 of 25 left)
If you donate ten-thousand dollars, we will travel to your home (provided it is located somewhere within the continental united states) and record an episode of the podcast from there (if you want us to), featuring you and one other person of your choosing as guests on the show. (The other person has to be a willing participant. We are not really genies, despite implying otherwise above. Though we wish we were.)
Estimated delivery: Dec 2013Pledge $10,000 or more

If you donate $10,000 but do not want anything in return, you win the satisfaction of knowing that you had $10,000, and probably still have more than that remaining (otherwise you have made a poor business decision).
