To be more clear about the last question:
>> Android 4.2.2 (Rock Qi units)
>> Android 4.0 (Rock standard Units)
Why is the non Qi running an older OS? What are your long term plans to upgrade OS [if any]?
Creator Trogdor 3 days ago
@Vak
Any more clarification on the 1080 statement? The 240x240 pixel resolution does not equate to 1080 resolution. I'm guessing you mean the GPU can support such an output but seek clarificaiton.
Please also clarify the difference in the Android OS between the Qi unit and the standard unit. The differences between the two units appear to be increasing as you update the front page.
Take care!

Im just became a backer and the main thing I am interested about is the The Rock's ios capability? Like music controls, how apps would work, etc..If you are able to post on the about that it would be very very helpful
Creator Trogdor 3 days ago
@Melissa Lee
I don't share your read on the comments here. I think a few of the more technical backers [myself included] have legitimate questions that Vak has admitted his engineering team should answer.
If he does not take offence, why should you?
As much as I'd like to back this project on faith I've learned through experience that due diligence is required on my part.
Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. And yes, I'm a 'backer' that didn't 'pretend' to back at the $199 level. As long as questions are answered in a best faith effort and I still feel the project is successful then I'll stay around for the ride.

P.S. @Atul: Thank you for your comment. We truly appreciate this. This is our first Kickstarter project and we're really new to this community. It's just that we've been working on this for so long that somethings we're a bit protective about things. It's like being told that your baby is ugly. It's just a natural defense. At the same time, we're learning from this community and we'll continue to learn together. As you all will get to know us and the many things that we can do together with your support. It's cheesy but these comments means a lot to us. These questions help us identify what we need to clarify.
Creator Vak Sambath 3 days ago
We want to thank each and everyone of you who has posted a comment - especially the technology based ones. These comments are extremely valuable to us and we need you to continue to post them. The Kickstarter community blessed us with very helpful comments from some extraordinarily technologically savvy members (thank you John, Visak, [add a couple more]. We are using these comments to help us work with our engineers and designers to make the production models a product that all of us (especially our Kickstarter supporters) can be proud of. We are continuing to learn and with your help, we are continuing to grow!
Thank you.

Hi, Thank you very much Atul for your HELP
We really like constructive advice, we have began FAQ yesterday. Many of our team members are back from the holiday, so it should be completed very soon.
Really appreciate the support

We appreciate the positive support, we have been working 24/7 for the last two years and this is our first exposure to the smartwatch world, so we need all the support possible.
Thanks Vak
Creator Melissa Lee 3 days ago
Hi Vak,
I don't understand why some of your "backers" would pretend to "back" you just to write some of the negative things about the product when they haven't seen it. If they don't believe in it, then why pretend to support it and just to say very negative things?
No product will be perfect, but that doesn't mean that it's not or will not be a good product. Even in the past when I've purchased brand name products, like Samsung, Apple, etc. there in itself would be flaw or cons. But does that mean that it's not a great product?
I've seen other products, and I think the Rock definitely looks the best and is the most promising.
Creator Atul Kapoor 3 days ago
@Vak: Thanks for all your replies. We all, who are backing this project and who will back it, want the project to be a success. So lets not get worked up with all questions and comments.
We all are curious to know the details behind the product of which we are putting are faith. My suggestion to you is, there are several repeatedly asked questions and some of them are unanswered as well. So lets round up those and put it in a FAQ section.
Put all like Technical Specifications, dimensions etc. in FAQ section. As well for detailed explanation of some technical know-how's put that in Updates section.
We all are here to help and support this project. Trust me you have a WINNER, just needs a bit more information and presentation.
…My two cents.

I am a big supporter of new innovative things and small business start-ups. I am backer and wish you all the success. Just remember there are people that are not satisfied with whatever life they are living and will always try to derail you of your path. Stay strong, positive and good luck.
I also have a question: Can I purchase any additional bands. I am in love with the two of the band colors for women. Are they interchangeable?
I have read your comment below to Google your innovative smartwatch, and it is amazing that you are the only smartwatch company that came up in the search. Non of the big companies even came close. Great job.
Creator Vak Sambath 3 days ago
Hi Vishak,
Sorry for the long comment, we became aware of several copy mistakes because of your help and patience, we got a ear full from our engineers,we always want to be pro active and correct it immediately, which we have been doing all day yesterday. We are serious about being part of the kickstarter community and hope to play a small part in the smartwatch community. We are a small company, but we are extremely committed and serious, with our heart and soul. Our engineers our finally back from the holidays, so we will direct technical questions to them which may require 24 hour response.
If you would like more extensive details, please email me I would love to chat

Hello,
Before investing the full amount, I would like to be assured about the following questions:
1) How wifi and QI charge penetrate the metal casing?
(this video demonstrates the problem of charging through metal: http://www.youtube.com/watch…)
2) Could it be that the rendering is of 1080p, even though the screen only has 240x240? If so, could this be the reason that the refresh rate seems so slow in the demos? if so, why not rendering in the native resolution? it would be much faster... If it's a way to comply with google-play's restriction on resolution, then maybe 480x480 would be enough? I mean, the refresh rates seem horrible...
P.S. - please don't be offended for "challenging" your concepts, I really don't understand...
Creator Asterix 3 days ago
Hi Vak, Thanks for the video. I see it now. It is buried so deep in the main page I did not see it.
I am also sorry for doing my homework. Backers have been burned more than once. Believe me I want YOU to succeed more than you do. This is a game changer smartwatch.
Creator LiLo 3 days ago
With all due respect, writing long emotional (and angry?) responses to backers will not get you very far..
The campaign (and website) is very light on actual facts regarding the watch. Considering you claim to be able to deliver within a few months you should have a complete spec of it, including which OS you are using, what you are compatible with, what battery times one can expect, what is the water resistance etc. Not giving this info only raises the suspicion that this is far from a finished product and more of a prototype that is still a long way away from being conumer grade.
Then I have a seperate question - How can you have a metal casing on a smartwatch and still have any sort of reception, Cellular or Wi-Fi? As far as I know, it has been a disaster for Apple when they tried using a metal back for the first iPhone and even a problem when just the ring around the phone was metal (in the iPhone 4). I find it hard to believe a smartwatch with a smaller antenna and fully encapsulated in metal will be able to get any sort of decent signal in or out? Can you please explain how it works then?
Creator Vak Sambath 3 days ago
Hey Vishak,
All of our time is extremely valuable, so please review all the videos and copy on the Rock campaign, the Sports Metal Rock is actually in the video displayed and alive at our engineering facility and manufacturing plant. I have taken the time to copy the video below, the video has been there all this time:
http://vimeo.com/76570429
Also, feel free spending all day reviewing the Bio's of our professional team executives, they all have 15 - 30 years actual work experience and have significant accomplishments. Pyntail LLC
has developed all the apps and our Rock partners with invested money and time. Since you have a great deal of time, check them out. They have 16 of the top 100 apps on I tunes,
Also, if you have more time goggle "Qi android smartwatch" the search does Not show Samsung, omate, Sony, you guessed right only the Rock ( the agent is E-paper). Goggle, "Qi smartwatch docking station" again not Samsung, omate, Sony, apple or any smartwatch, just the Rock. Google 'app portal smartwatch " again not Samsung, omate, Sony, apple or any smartwatch, just the Rock.
We have spent years and personal funds to try and create innovation and value, which was not easy, we did this so the rest of the industry will start thinking out of the Box. It was not easy taking a idea, creating it and patenting, it takes years and a great deal of sacrifice. I'm sure you can relate.
Again please go through the bio section, their great guys and are dedicated to the rock and getting it manufactured
Have Fun Vak

Currently backed the highest tier of pledge but I would like to know more about the iOS compatibility. Preferably regarding music controls, the types of apps that will be ready for the iPhone upon product launch and the interaction between the user/watch/iPhone.
Creator John Proffer 3 days ago
@larry im pretty sure he means internal storage and not RAM. Omate (www.kickstarter.com/projects/omate/omate-truesmart-water-resistant-standalone-smartwa which I bought) has up to 8gb internal storage for apps, since some apps will not install to sd cards.
Creator Larry 3 days ago
Hi,
I went ahead and backed you guys for now, but I have some serious concerns and may eventually decide to back off...
Main concerns:
1. This whole thing seems to have been written by a marketing person. Some key technical details are missing or unclear (e.g., waterproof standard, no specific Android version, ...).
2. You mention your apps are being built by another company. Why? Outsourcing something like that to another company sounds like a recipe for disaster. What's the incentive for the other company to complete the work on time and with the best possible results?
3. Last I checked, Android was terrible at the whole BT 4.0 LE thing until version 4.3. Yet, your smartwatch runs on 4.2 if I'm not mistaken.
4. Notifications portal? How does that work exactly? I understand you don't want to go too much into specifics, but the description basically says: we've got this revolutionary (patented) system that puts your smartphone notifications on our Rock. OK, but what's the interaction like? Say I get the notification from my phone. What can I do next? Clear it, respond, open the app, ...?
5. Why would you build a smartwatch with 4GBs of RAM?? That way too much! I don't think there's a single smartphone available today with that much RAM... How did you decide on such a massive amount?
6. Autonomy on battery with normal usage? Battery charge time?
7. SDK?
Hope you can clarify things a little. I don't want to come off as aggressive or critical, but there are many inconsistencies / omissions in the project description that have me worried.
On a positive note, I do think this watch could very well be everything the Pebble should have been. And by the way, the ad at the beginning is very very good and the actress is gorgeous ;-)
Cheers,
-Larry

Vak, I just became a backer for the Wall St. business model. I also wanted to post here to acknowledge that you took the time to reply to me privately before I became a backer. Keep up this and I'm sure backers will continue to grow. Just one minor follow up, the notification for calls will be standard Android, ie. caller ID from a database or contacts and the ability to answer or reject? Also, if you have a Bluetooth or wired headset connected to the phone when a call comes in, can you answer it via the Rock and then just use your connected headset? I also agree with your team, the speaker is unnecessary and it is a battery hog. Leave it to the Gear to be an inconvenient Dict Tracy phone.
Thanks!

backed at the 199 level, for the business watch, however will keep a close eye on the iOS support that is offered. I currently have an iphone but due for an upgrade and haven';t decided what i will upgrade to yet.

Can you please post the real picture of a rock sports watch with metal casing.
The photos look like rendering and they do not look like the only real photo of the Wall Street watch with the metal case shown below. Thermal case here looks different and bigger.

@richard - i dont know. this guy likes his patents and "proprietary" stuff.. I have a feeling nothing will work except their own special products.
Creator Richard Hustwit 3 days ago
@John, many thanks. So if I have a Qi charging station already (Nokia phone) then then watches will charge with this?
Creator John Proffer 3 days ago
they ALL rely on batteries. Qi is just a wireless charging standard.
Creator Richard Hustwit 3 days ago
I notice that the watches under $179 are not Qi powered, so do they rely on batteries? If so, what is the estimated last of these batteries as it seems to be a power draining (yet awesome) watch?
Creator John Proffer 3 days ago
whats the difference between your "app portal" and the google play store?
Creator kalani dolly 3 days ago
Sorry if this was asked/answered.
1. Are both the mens and womens watch face the same size? And to piggy back of someone else's question.
2. Will watch be curved (hopefully) or flat?
3. Will watch bands be changable?
This is why I ask. I am female but do not want a white watch but do not want a bulky strap. I want a black watch with a black female strap or the black rockin metal strap.
Thanks

Creator Vak Sambath 3 days ago
@Li: 1) The sport version uses a three prong metal flat contact 2) the 179 version does offer Qi charging. Which one are you referring too. I hope we didn't miss anything. 3) The casing is composite plastic for the sports, while the wrist band is silicone premium plastic...it's a smoother finish.
