Will the sports watch have a different molding than the metal watch?.
Creator Marco 4 days ago
Hey Vak,
This smart watch line is looking pretty good. I like how you're designing the Wall Street for business professional types. I actually bought that one.
The sports watch is not that bad either especially for the $97 price point. I'm actually considering giving it as gifts to my nieces and nephews for Christmas. Is there anyway to buy more watches using the same account? I'm really interested in buying more as gifts.
Please let me know if that's possible.. Or I could contact you thru email to arrange more orders.
And for the app idea, I think a sports app that monitors your favorite sports team is gonna be helpful for sports fans like me. I hope you consider that one. Thanks for introducing an affordable Smartwatch to consumers like me.
Creator John Proffer 4 days ago
hmm this watch seems to be very thickly ladden in market jargon and actually it seems like there is already a product thats manufactured and ready to go. You're claiming ship dates right after christmas, despite having a 44 day kickstarter campaign. Very suspicious..
also, I saw your other "Rock v. #othersmartwatch#" charts - they all differ and really, from what I can tell, the only difference with your smartwatch is it's crammed with a whole heaping lot of bloatware and "proprietary" apps and "proprietary" chargers? This campaign kind of raises red flags for me.

I totally Agree with Wallemi, we need to know the water resistance. it should be listed in an easy to see place, you are going to be getting asked this A LOT. thanks Vak.
Creator Wollemi Pine 4 days ago
Let me ask my question again about the water resistance. Was is the target IP rating? Will the IP rating of this watch be IP67 or better?
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Candace: At the moment yes. At the same time...the watch casing can fit many standard wristbands. It's pretty swappable. We might offer more colors as stretch goals. Depends on the demand.
Creator candace glover 4 days ago
I just changed my pledge to the sports metal ($189) women's. I want to make sure that I got the one I wanted. Is this the all metal one that comes in colors? BTW, this watch looks good!!
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Luis: The colors of the sports watch for men version non-metal... white, black, blue, and dark gray. Now for the sports metal Rock, it's black, red and silver.
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Kickstaters... We've been getting a bit of confusion. We just want to let everyone know that because this is all in R&D...we do recognize there's some confusion between our specifications for The Rock Qi and the Standard Rock units. We are in the process of updating the copy to make things easier and more clear so that way there's less confusion.
Creator Luis cuevas 4 days ago
What are the colors for the sports watch for men?.
Creator Melissa Lee 4 days ago
Hi Vak
Can you give me some more details or specs on the following?
-Are the wristbands easily replaceable? i.e. due to wear and tear
-Does it come with replacement tools?
-Can I change the battery myself?
-Can I order multiple watches with different wristbands?
Thanks for your time! Much appreciated
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
Hi Marc
Also,t he $189 reward, allows you to choose from any of the 4 mens sport color bands, so you made the correct choice.. The $199 Wall Street reward is the Rock with the metal band and metal casing.
Enjoy the Rock

How can I get the sports band with metal casing and without Qi charger.
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Wollemi: We are water resistant. In terms of rating, we're still in the process to test this out as well. We have a few options that we're exploring. This Kickstarter campaign allows us to get the funds to add more testing environments and options.
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Marc: The first image is the sports band version with Metal casing (the watch area). The second image is the metal wristband...that one has a metal casing too. I hope this helps.
Creator Marc 4 days ago
I have been reading and even I do not understand a thing. I have promised $189
Included in this package this three (https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/001/321/575/e27de70822a6f8fe49a9a5d01a6bcbca_large.jpg…), no? I like the metal model with black belt as the image, but I was not sure if this strap or this one (https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/001/207/047/584da7b93813ca8c27576921ceff5018_large.png…) and is that the latter seems horrible.
Besides, 4.2.2 is Jellybean. ICS is 4.1.

Hi Abhradeep Maiti,
The Agent was the first E-paper non touch Black/white Qi , The Rock is the first Qi android wireless color WiFi touchscreen smartwatch,
Thanks Vak
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Anurag: We are 100% sure it's 4GB Ram high speed. The Android version is ICS (4.2.2). The Play Store access will be limited as this is a modified version of Android. It is not the full version. Regarding the microSD question, no there is no slot. In terms HD, the onboard support. It's compressed using H.264. I'll get a more detail response for you directly from our engineers.
5. For USB charging cable, where there's a 3 metal contact surface and the other end is USB that connects to your PC.
6. Regarding the notification, yes there is no speaker. Notification is done via vibration and the on screen alert that's comparable to Pebble and other smartwatches.
7) Facebook messaging, you can read, post and reply to messages. When you hit reply to a message, a keyboard comes up and you can type to it.
Creator Trogdor 4 days ago
One last question: Given the portal will be in the Google Android App Store...I will come right out and ask: This still seems like a work-around to avoid the need to get the *watch* certified for App Store access.
May I ask which apps you have tested on the watch utilizing the portal installation? Which Apps have failed to run on the watch? Realizing the watch does not have a speaker; if I so desired could I run angry birds or Pandora on the watch and stream the audio via bluetooth to my BT headphones? I'm not saying it is the best idea but I am trying to get a handle on what is available with this watch...
Thanks!
Creator Trogdor 4 days ago
@Vak
@Pu Hwai Ching pretty much handled my follow up questions :)
I would ask again: How much of the internal memory is used for the OS? Example: My Nexus 5 phone utilizes up to 2 GB for the OS. Storage is a completely different memory area. I am doubting that the watch uses 4 GB for the OS.
I understand resolutions and so forth and I still seek elaboration on the resolution -vs- the 1080p statement. I am guessing you are stating the watch CPU is capable of 1080p processing or ?
Also looking for battery capacity...again, I understand the concepts but I'm looking for hard data. Is the battery 100 MAH, 150 MAH, etc I understand there are two types of batteries. Please elaborate on both.
Take care!

So, after reading about some concerns, I decided to search for a few reviews of smartwatches, and as it appears, there has already been a Kickstarter campaign for a Qi enabled smartwatch: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/secretlabs/agent-the-worlds-smartest-watch
So, your claim that this is the first Qi enabled smartwatch is not correct.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you might want to be factually correct.
Creator Eric Williams 4 days ago
Hi Vak.
Is the business smartwatch coming in gold and stainless steel model?
I have looked at many smartwatches on the market and if you want all the technical bells and whistles you will have to pay over $300. The Rock at $97 is great value for myself and most consumers. I own the Pebble which was $150 and is only E paper with small screen that is difficult to use. I like the Rock, it has bigger screen with high-resolution and color that makes it easier to see and read messages. My wife is getting me the Rock for Christmas. We are backers.

Creator Romandro 4 days ago
Hey Vak,
I have a question about the app program.. Do you think you can develop an app that can sync itself to the current stock prices? I think that would be awesome especially for the wall street watch..
I don't know much about smartwatches but my background is in video production.. And for someone who's been doing this for a long time.. I have familiarity with what looks HD and what doesn't on and off screen. For this particular watch.. It definitely does look HD.
I'm not making much money nowadays but the $97 price point is a steal for what this watch can do and will be able to do once it hits the market.
That being said.. I understand that it's a kickstarter campaign and we're all trying to back a project that can benefit us as consumers in the long run.. but at the same time we also want to get the most quality for our buck. That's why I feel good about this campaign from where it's starting and where it plans to go. Like I said.. $97 is definitely a steal and I bet Vak and his guys will keep on adding features as this campaign progress.
Kudos for giving us an affordable option for smartwatches.

Creator Pu Hwai Ching 4 days ago
I'm sorry Vak, I'm going to have you call you out as the marketing guy who can't answer the engineering questions.
Multiple people have been asking about the screen resolution. We can all understand that it is 240x240.
On the issue of '1080p HD', you answered '@Nathan...for 1080p...i just want to clarify...240x240 is the resolution...but in terms of how the screen is structured...it's 1080p as in P for progressive scan...' as well as '240 x 240 with VP 1080P H.264 Support'.
No, your screen is not 'structured' as 1080p, neither does it have 'VP 1080P H.264 Support' (what the heck does that even mean?). Please also don't advertise your watch as a 'HD colour touch screen smartwatch' under the early bird special, it is not.
Trogdor asked about the memory and internal memory being listed as 4G. I would assume they refer to the ram and the internal storage. You answered it as '@Trogdor: yes. 4Gb. It's 4G+4G'. The smartwatch having 4GB of internal memory is reasonable, but I highly doubt that the watch has 4GB of ram, when the Note 3 currently has only 3GB of ram. Not only that, the terminology is plain confusing for consumers and geeks alike, where GB is the standard term for memory/storage and 4G refers to the network.
I use a Pebble, and when I saw this, I was really interested due to the price and the added functionality, for a price cheaper than what I got the Pebble for. However, the page is badly affected with false marketing and misleading answers, and that puts me off the whole project.
Do get your real engineers here to answer the questions and edit the page. You guys might have a good thing going on here, don't kill it by your actions.
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Nadim: Because this is early in our developmental stage, we started out with Android as there's more developmental flexible. In terms of support for iOS...as our project funding progresses, we'll bring on more engineering support. We could probably do that via stretch goals. However, we want to make sure that we're not stretching ourselves thin.
Normal usage depends on the person's profile. Are you fitness active or business active? It really varies. For regular usage, you can go at least 3 to 4 days on a single charge. The PCB board supports 6 different types of hibernation mode to save battery life.
Usually about 2hrs to fully charge.
it'll blackout to sleep mode to save battery.
Controlling music is something we're currently testing support for with our music app.
Regarding Siri...we don't have support for that...probably in future firmware release.
Making the iPhone alert you...that's part of our tracker app that we're working on...
Many of these things will be or are in current developmental staging. We'll introduce stretch goals to let you know what apps or types of feature support will more than likely make the first batch of delivery.
Creator Nadim Alam 4 days ago
Hi,
Just became a backer to see how the journey plans out. Then will decide towards the end to see if the product is to my liking or not.
My main concerns is iOS support, i hope you have more support for iPhones with your watch then just general text alerts.
Its also a little worrying that the watch has absolutely no speaker in it?!
Also you have mentioned every time that the battery is standard, but have never stated how much that standard is! Front page shows standby time of 100-150hrs. But how many hours does it translate to general usage? How many days can i get out of this watch before i have to charge again, say if I'm only using the watch for the time, reading notifications, controlling music on my smartphone etc...
Also how long does it take to charge via USB?
Is the display always on showing the time or does it black out into sleep mode?
One thing that I'm sure it would do but still need to know is, can i control my music running on my iPhone (skip, play, pause, forward).
Can i use Siri through the watches microphone?
Apps i would like to see in addition to doing the above basic day to day things, a way to talk to someone through voice call/skype call when watch connected with smartphone.
and a really useful one would be to keep beeping the iPhone with a button push on the watch, so if its buried under things and lost, i can track the phone easier by hearing the beeping sound coming from the phone.

@Nathan...for 1080p...i just want to clarify...240x240 is the resolution...but in terms of how the screen is structured...it's 1080p as in P for progressive scan...
Here's the reference: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Differences-Between-1080i-1080p-720p-/10000000002126276/g.html

@Nathan: Resolution: 240 x 240 with VP 1080P H.264 Support
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Wollemi: Yes, it's standard water resistant.
Creator Vak Sambath 4 days ago
@Trogdor: yes. 4Gb. It's 4G+4G...that's correct. Nope...memory is not expandable.
Resolution: 240 x 240 with VP 1080P H.264 Support
Standard 1yr warranty.
In terms of usage...that all depends from person to person and how active you are. Say if you're using for the gym, business, viewing photos...that will change the amount of battery life.
Qi means it uses wireless charging. Battery is pretty standard.
We'll have our core fitness apps...like yoga, golf, running, tracker...mostly health apps. This will be a lead into our follow-on product that will pair perfectly with the Rock.
Microphone is for speech to text. Speaker we've found that it drains the battery a lot.
Oh...the App Portal will be an App that will be available via Google Play. Developers can develop their apps using this platform SDK. From there, apps can be dragged and dropped into our Rock portal and their apps will automatically transfer to the Rock Smartwatch.
I hope this all helps.
Vak :)
Creator Trogdor 4 days ago
Another question:
You list memory as 4G. I'm assuming 4 GB. Correct? Same for Internal Memory?
What amount of memory is set aside for the OS? What of that internal memory remains available to end users? I am assuming memory is not expandable. Correct?
Note I'm not making judgement on amount of memory as this is a watch. I am asking for this information to make an informed decision.
Creator Trogdor 4 days ago
I'm interested but need some more details please.
1] I am not clear how a 240 x 240 pixel screen size equates to a 1080p HD resolution. Please elaborate.
2] Warranty?
3] I understand battery standby time, however what is battery life when in use? With Wi-Fi enabled? Difference between Qi and standard battery life? Is the battery end user servicable? Battery specs?
4] What core apps will be ready at time of shipment?
5] Specs indicate a microphone, what about a speaker?
6] You indicate a progressive rollout of apps. What core apps will be available upon delivery?
7] I am making an assumption that the portal app is a way to bypass Google App Store certification. May I ask you to elaborate on this application? What apps have you tested from phone to watch [e.g. angry birds, Keypass, etc.]? What apps have you had fail to transfer [if any]?
Thanks in advance for the reply!

Cool! my vote for a google voice/skype calling app, given this has a mic and can connect to wifi. Cell phone reception at work is super spotty compared to wifi, and this would give me a reason to ditch the cell for most of the day.

@julius: in terms of apps...no...but for certain bluetooth connections like notifications and alerts yes. We do have a developer package there apps can be developed for iOS.
